Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel) is a song written and recorded by Billy Joel for his River of Dreams album. It was inspired by his daughter. He reportedly wrote it for then 7-yr.-old Alexa Ray in response to her question, Where do we go when we die? He told her After you die, you go into other people's hearts, and they take you with them through their lives.  It's a beautiful lullabye, especially for a string trio.

This is a String Trio (Violin I, Violin II, Cello) arrangement of the Brahm's Lullaby, AKA Guten Abend, Gute Nacht, AKA Ukolébavka.

It's on the simpler side, with no syncopations.  I arranged this for a couple of my intermediate violin students to play together - I guess the cello part is slightly more difficult because of the leaps throughout, but still manageable, and would be a great training opportunity for a budding cellist.

Easy to put together, short and sweet.  Hope you like it!

The song You'll Be in My Heart by English drummer and singer Phil Collins is from the 1999 Disney animated feature Tarzan. It won Best Original Song at both the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes. The song - originally written for Phil's daughter Lily - was originally called Lullaby and captures the love between a mother and child. In this String Trio arrangement, the phrase to the ending lyric just look over your shoulder repeats again and again in different octaves, punctuating the message and reminding us all, that no matter what happens,we are never alone.

THE COVENTRY CAROL is an English Christmas carol and Christmas lullaby from the 16th century that was traditionally performed in Coventry, England. This carol refers to the Massacre of the Innocents, when Herod ordered the killing of Jewish baby boys. It has a simple tune in a minor key using a Picardy Third which is the inclusion of the relative major chord in this case at the end of two phrases. Arranged as an INTERMEDIATE STRING TRIO (two violins and cello) in A minor, it provides a lovely carol for Christmas services and programs. Separate sheets of music are provided for each instrument in addition to the score.

Soon after coming to America in 1893, Antonin Dvorak wrote his Symphony No. 9 (From The New World). This piece Goin' Home is actually the theme from the 2nd Movement Largo - which the English Horn plays in the symphony. This haunting melody is so stunningly beautiful that one of Dvorak's students wrote lyrics to the music and published the song in 1922. People have always speculated as to what was the inspiration for Dvorak's original theme? A Czech folk tune? A Spiritual? A gospel hymn? A lullaby? It was something new - The New World.

Three iconic American Christmas carols arranged for two violins and a cello. Each instrument has a melody part which makes this arrangement appealing to performers. The march-like Go Tell It On The Mountain gives way to a gentle lullaby-like Away In A Manger, The cello pizz providing a gentle sense of rocking. The tempo picks up with Jingle Bells, leading to a slightly less predictable, but satisfying, final cadence. The performance duration is close to four and a half minutes and the full score has individual parts attached. Some phrasing has been suggested, but as always, use your discretion. This arrangement is well suited to high school string players and church music groups looking for new repertoire across the Christmas season. .
