Robert Schumann (1810-1856) was a talented pianist, music critic, and composer.  This work, written in 1838, is one of his most well known pieces for piano. He described the inspiration for the Scenes from Childhood� in a letter to his wife as follows: “ I often seemed like a child to you – in short, I felt as if I were in pinafores again� ..I wrote thirty quaint little things, about twelve of which I have selected and called Scenes from Childhood�. This charming arrangement for a trio of two violins and cello is accessible to intermediate students, amateurs and professionals. The rhythm is a little complex, but the left hand work is all in first position.

Alexander Porfiryevich Borodin (Russian: �лек�а�ндр Порфи�рьевич Бороди�н, IPA: [�lʲɪkˈsandr p�rˈfʲi rʲjɪvʲɪtɕ bər�ˈdʲin] (12 November 1833 – 27 February 1887) was a Russian chemist and Romantic musical composer ofGeorgian ancestry. He was one of the prominent 19th-century composers known as The Mighty Handful, a group dedicated to producing a uniquely Russian kind of classical music, rather than imitating earlier Western European models.[3][4][5]Borodin is known best for his symphonies, his two string quartets, the symphonic poem In the Steppes of Central Asia and his opera Prince Igor. Music fromPrince Igor and his string quartets was later adapted for the US musical Kismet.

A doctor and chemist by profession, Borodin made important early contributions to organic chemistry. Although he is presently known better as a composer, during his lifetime, he regarded medicine and science as his primary occupations, only practising music and composition in his spare time or when he was ill. As a chemist, Borodin is known best for his work concerning organic synthesis, including being among the first chemists to demonstrate nucleophilic substitution, as well as being the co-discoverer of the aldol reaction. Borodin was a promoter of education in Russia and founded the School of Medicine for Women in Saint Petersburg, where he taught until 1885.

Aura Lee is an American Civil War song written by George R. Poulton and published in 1861.The tune is familiar to modern audiences because the melody was used in Elvis Presley's 1956 hit song Love Me Tender. Many different covers of this music have been recorded over the years by an assortment of artists. It is both a sentimental ballad and a classic in American Folk Music. This arrangement for String Trio opens with the instruments in close harmony. In the second section, the cello diverts to playing accompanying pizzicato arpeggios to the violin's melody. For the third section, the cello takes over the melody in its rich bass register while the violins play an obligato descant. The D.C. al Fine brings it all back to the original close harmonies for a stunnungly simple finish.
