Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen is one of this arranger's favorite compositions of all time. It has been said that it took Cohen about 5 yrs. to write the song - and that he wrote about 100-150 draft verses, filling many notebooks, before he was finally satisfied. Perfection isn't easily achieved. And, over the years, he actually re-figured it many times for various performances for different artists. The melody is melancholic and sad - yet uplifting at the same time. It is rather like a hymn, or even a dirge - very somber and solemn. This Trio arrangement is very near and dear to my heart.
