This song was the opening theme for The Mickey Mouse Club television show in the 1950's. It was a request from a bride who wanted it played at the end of her ceremony as the Exit March recessional. One problem: the ceremony was in a church, so I had to disguise the tune a bit to make it sound more like a regal fanfare than a kid's march. The result is eloquently altered - but still recognizable if you listen closely.  [In lieu of a Second Violin, that part can also be played on a trumpet (Trumpet in C).]  ENJOY!

Campbell's Farewell to Red Gap is a folk tune probably originating in the British Isles that is often played by old-time and Irish fiddlers in the U.S. This arrangement is for an Intermediate String Trio (two violins and a cello.) It starts with an imitation of bagpipes, then the melody is taken up by the violins. The players have fun as they pass the melodies among themselves.  Separate sheets are provided for each instrument in addition to the score. This is a Christian hymn most commonly called Fairest Lord Jesus. It has also been identified as Beautiful Savior and Crusader's Hymn. Its origin is uncertain, but it is said to have come from a 1662 Jesuit manuscript and it appeared in a Roman Catholic hymnbook in 1677. The tune has also been attributed to a Silesian folk song and the melody can be heard as The Crusader's March in an oratiorio by Franz Liszt. This trio arrangement is a simple and straightforward setting of the hymn. Both of the violins get a chance to voice the melody.
