This soon leads into a lively folk-like Moderato Dance section with a great catchy tune and punchy rhythms. These two different sections compliment one another, adding variety and excitement as they repeat themselves half way through so that both melodies get plenty of work-out! The piece would very much suit young players, although amateurs and professionals alike can enjoy it.

The violin part contains numerous parallel sixths, making this a fruitful study in double-stopped 6ths for the high-school or college-age violinist. The original piece is part of Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068, written for his patron Prince Leopold sometime between the years 1717 and 1723. The title comes from violinist August Wilhelmj’s late 19th century arrangement of the piece for violin and piano. By transposing the key of the piece from its original D major to C major, Wilhelmj was able to play the piece on only one string of his violin, the G string. The air is usually played slowly and freely, and features an intertwining harmony and melody.
