Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533318 Composed by Jacques Leguerney. 20th Century,Concert,Standards. 71 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2343095. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533318). Première Sonate pour piano et violonI. ModéréII. Assez lentIII. AniméIV. Bien allant, mais d'expression tranquilleJacques Leguerney began the composition of his First Sonata for Piano and Violin in 1926, shortly after beginning composition studies with Nadia Boulanger. She was reportedly quite enthusiastic about the natural talent of her new student, and offered to give him private lessons to supplement her analysis classes. Leguerney was already reticent about studying composition. In an interview in 1989, he remembered his feeling at that time, saying that I found that this was useless work. If one is gifted for music, one is capable of writing harmonies. instead, Leguerney showed his Sonata to the French composer Albert Roussel, who was renting an apartment on Avenue Wagram in a building next to that of the Leguerney family. Leguerneyremembered Roussel's apartment with its dark blue walls and gilded Indian statues! Roussel encouraged his efforts and said of the second theme of the first movement: I would have liked to have written that. (J'aurais été très content d'avoir écrit ça.)The first performance of the Sonata was given by the pianist Thérèse Cahen (1897-1944) and the violinist Hortense de Sampigny (? – 1970) in a private concert. The violinist was already a well-known concert artist. De Sampigny finished her studies at the Paris Conservatory in 1915, where she was in the class of Jules Boucherit. In 1918 she married the French author Auguste Bailly (1878-1967). From 1921, she was a member of the Trio Trillat, founded by the pianist Ennemond Trillat with the collaboration of cellist Jean Witkowski. The Trio was active in concerts and recordings in France and abroad for about thirty years. De Sampigny later taught at the Conservatory as assistant to René Benedetti. Thérèse Cahen had studied piano, harmony and counterpoint at the Schola Cantorum, where she obtained a Second Prize. She was a faithful friend and muse for Leguerney, and recruited many musicians for first performances of his vocal and chamber works. She was deported to Auschwitz on July 31, 1944, a few weeks before the Liberation of Paris. This edition of the Sonata was performed at a private concert in Vernon (France) in July 2011 by French violinist Marion Larigaudrie and pianist Mary Dibbern.  It is based upon the autograph manuscript OL 23, on deposit at the Music Department of the Bibliothèque national in Paris.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.861944 Composed by Mark O'Connor. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 18 pages. Mark O'Connor Musik International #6208239. Published by Mark O'Connor Musik International (A0.861944). Fiddle Sonata (violin solo part – violin and piano) MO121BViolin Solo Part (piano score available)Music by Mark O’Connor14 pages - 16:00 minutes in length I. IntroductionII. HoedownIII. WaltzIV. Gigue Fiddle Sonata for violin and piano composed by Mark O’Connor was a commission from the Library Of Congress in Washington D.C. It was premiered in Jefferson Hall during the Library’s prestigious ‘97-’98 chamber music season. The Library was featuring piano in the year’s programming and requested O’Connor compose utilizing the instrument. The premier was broadcast on NPR’s Performance Today and was also the centerpiece for a nationally broadcast public radio special, America’s Fiddler, Mark O’Connor at the Library Of Congress. Although O’Connor did not utilize the piano as a back-up instrument in his childhood fiddling contests, it does have a tradition accompanying fiddlers in Scotland, Shetland and Canada. The Sonata begins with Introduction and features a melodic and romantic theme with beautiful chords. Hoedown, in D minor, is very lively and tuneful. The Waltz is a lovely theme that undergoes some insightful development. The finale, Gigue, is a 6/8 dance which is quite a romp and features some fast bow work on a very catchy tune. The music is well suited for advanced and intermediate students.Original music printed from the composer’s manuscripts.Music editing, copying and engraving by Mark O’Connorusing Finale on Apple Macintosh 1997 Composed by Mark O’ConnorCommissioned by the Library Of Congress-Washington D.C. Catalogue Number MO121BCopyright © 1997 by Mark O’Connor Music International For more information on violinist and composer Mark O'Connor, O’Connor String Camps, Touring Ensembles, Discography, Bio, Repertoire and more, please visitwww.markoconnor.com For information on the O’Connor Method – instructional book series for violin, viola, cello and school string orchestra programs:www.oconnormethod.com

Violin and piano - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q21149 Composed by Stefan Heucke. This edition: Sheet music. Violin Library. Downloadable. Op. 58. Duration 21 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q21149. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q21149). - Stefan Heucke.

Piano,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1488838 Composed by Joseph Martin Kraus. Arranged by Bertil van Boer. Classical. 46 pages. Artaria Editions #1065692. Published by Artaria Editions (A0.1488838). Artaria Editions AE433Joseph Martin Kraus was one of the most gifted and unusual composers of the 18th century, whose talent for thematic development, colourful orchestration and theatrical flair caused Haydn to proclaim him one of only two 'geniuses' he knew (Mozart being the other one). Although Kraus's focus as a composer was mainly upon works written for the stage, he had occasion and opportunity to write a variety of works for chamber setting, including four sonatas for violin and fortepiano; a fifth sonata, in D minor, was written in 1777 expressly for violin and clavicembalo, representing a different sort of piece than the more common duo sonata. The date of the D major sonata is not known, although it was probably written during Kraus's first years in Stockholm; stylistic evidence strongly suggests that it, and its companion piece, the Sonata in C major (VB 160), date from the later part of that period 1780-1782. Kraus was a proficient performer on both instruments and his sonatas, which display all his usual musical ingenuity and technical finish, are highly attractive works.Allan Badley.
