Korean Lament This music, “Korean Lament†composed by “Nanpa Hongâ€(1898-1942), has historical significance as the first violin piece to be composed in Korea using Western usage. It was composed around 1924, published by the “Yeonakhae†in 1926, and recorded as a record in 1936, becoming the epitome of Korean violin music. It was first performed by “Nan-pa Hong†himself in 1932, and appeared as an important piece at each of his concerts. At that time, in an era of oppression during the Japanese colonial period, the title of “Korean Lament†contains a symbolic meaning of patriotism. It is in the form of two parts, that is, AB, with the first half in 4/4 time and the second half in 6/8 time. Since the composer was a violinist himself, his performance and technical ability were of great interest to the social atmosphere of the time. The original piece is a short music for violin and piano, but it was reborn as a work that added Han-Ki Kim’s musical language for a concert at the “Yonsei 100th Anniversary Memorial Hall†to commemorate “Nan-pa Hong†on December 26-27, 2022.
