This transcription of the entirely public domain tune follows a common practice of moving from minor into major at the midpoint of the tune while also preserving the distinctively Brazilian harmonic quality in the opening verse and throughout. The violin book Mer r y Locomotive is especially composed for the children in first and second grade of the music school. It consists of 14 different pieces. It offers many tools for the initial development of both the right and the left-hand techniques. All melodic pieces help develop the softness of sound and stimulate smooth change of position. Based on the different methodological tasks, they are divided as follows: No. 1 - 3 – Mastering the legato and detaché techniques (rhythmic bowing) and getting to know holds and pauses; No. 4 - 5 – Connecting strings: this essential part of the technique requires the development of right- hand flexibility. Tackling position changing is also part of this section. The mastering of these main techniques largely determines the entire further development of the pupil's violin technique; No. 6 - 9 – Staccato bowing: at this stage it is advisable to learn staccato not by sharp pressure but based on a light acceleration of detaché and the separation of sounds by pauses; No. 10 - 11 – Is a combination of the legato and staccato bow strokes; No. 12 - 13 – Dotted rhythm in combination with legato and staccato bowing; No. 14 – Is a combination of all the above-proposed bow strokes in one piece; The combination of the violin pieces with accompaniment contributes to the stability of intonation and provides the necessary metro-rhythmic support. The artistically enriched material makes learning more attractive to the pupil and awakens a musical interest in classes, as a result of which the effectiveness of the educational process is significantly increased.

This arrangement of Do-Re-Mi is for violin solo with piano accompaniment. It is set in the key of D and is arranged for a level 3 violinist. Reinforce techincal concepts with this famous Broadway tune. It begins in first position. The reprise of the chorus is then played entirely in 3rd position. The piano then takes the melody for the 3rd reprise of the chorus and the violin plays an obbligato. 1 octave scales in both 1st and 3rd position challenge the student to play scales using sixteenth notes. There is minimal shifting from 1st to 3rd position. Alternate fingering is included for one passage using a 4th finger extension on the E string.

Most of the bow strokes used are legato detache. There is one measure of up-bow staccato on a D major scale. And one measure of brushed off the string bowing for a D major scale.

This arrangement of Do-Re-Mi will help students improve and reinforce technique while playing a song they love.

Boil' em Cabbage Down is well-known fiddle tune that exists in many different forms and variations. This arrangement utilizes important beginning bow strokes and rhythms while only spanning the notes A, B, C Sharp, and D.  The piano and second violin accompaniment add richness and style to the simplicity of the melody.  The arrangement allows the performers to play three different ways; as a solo with piano, two violins and piano, or as a violin duet without piano.
