Violin and piano - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q20942 Composed by Martin Meliton Pablo de Sarasate y Navascuez. This edition: Sheet music. Violin Library. Downloadable. Op. 24. Schott Music - Digital #Q20942. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q20942). Pablo de Sarasate (1844-1908), undoubtedly, is one of the most important and most successful violin virtuosos of the second half of the 19th century and has become immortal through his virtuoso and highly expressive bravura pieces in the world of violin playing. His concert programme mostly consisted of his own compositions, even if quite a few works had been dedicated to him by fellow composers and tailor-made for him: for example, 'Symphonie espagnole' by Lalo, 'Scottish Fantasia' by Bruch and violin works by Saint-Saëns and Wieniawski. In 'Caprice Basque' (Capricho vasco) Op. 24, Sarasate used Spanish folk tunes. He dedicated this piece to the composer, conductor and pianist Otto Goldschmidt, a pupil of Mendelssohn. This work is influenced by the typically dotted rhythm of the 'zortzico', a Basque dance in 5/8 metre – a virtuoso and rousing piece for virtuosos.

Violin and piano - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q7068 Composed by Henri Vieuxtemps. This edition: Sheet music. Violin Library. Downloadable. Op. 32/2. Schott Music - Digital #Q7068. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q7068). In the time of travelling violin virtuosos in the 19th century, the Belgian composer Henri Vieuxtemps was regarded as one of the 'greatest', next to Paganini, Spohr, Bériot, Wieniawski and others. His concert tours led him to the 'new world' and through Europe to Russia where he lived in Petersburg for a few years and founded the violin class at the local conservatoire. His most important pupil - after his return to his Belgian home country - was Eugène Ysaÿe. As a composer, he had written compositions mainly, though not exclusively for 'his' instrument, the violin. He also wrote concertos and chamber music, especially catchy salon music repertoire pieces such as his Rondino, a virtuoso piece with a soulful middle section - a real treat as an encore!

Violin and piano - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q20941 Composed by Martin Meliton Pablo de Sarasate y Navascuez. This edition: Sheet music. Violin Library. Downloadable. Op. 43. Schott Music - Digital #Q20941. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q20941). Pablo de Sarasate (1844-1908), undoubtedly, is one of the most important and most successful violin virtuosos of the second half of the 19th century and has become immortal through his virtuoso and highly expressive bravura pieces in the world of violin playing. In 1899 Sarasate composed one of his most popular, non-Spanish pieces, 'Introduction & Tarantella' Op. 43, which was published in the following year, even in a version with orchestra accompaniment. The tarantella, a folk dance in 6/8 metre, comes from southern Italy and has developed from dance tunes played in Apulia for people suffering from tarantism. According to popular belief, the bite of a tarantula caused tarantism which was supposed to be cured by wild dancing. Go and try if Sarasate's salon piece really has medicinal properties!

Violin and piano - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q20935 Composed by Frederic Chopin. Arranged by Martín Melitón Pablo de Sarasate y Navascuez. This edition: Sheet music. Violin Library. Downloadable. Op. 9/2 - op. 27/2. Schott Music - Digital #Q20935. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q20935). Apart from works of his own, Sarasate also arranged other works for his own use, such as the two 'Nocturnes' by Frédéric Chopin. To pianists, it may seem like sacrilege to arrange such masterpieces but Sarasate wanted to subscribe some of the most beautiful and most tender melodies to the violin which he saw primarily as a vocal instrument. Or he might have regretted that Chopin had not written any original work for violin and piano – but here's Sarasate's arrangement to make up for this lack.

Violin and piano - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q53345 Op. 58. Composed by Hubert Leonard. Edited by Wolfgang Birtel. This edition: Sheet music. (c) 2020 Schott Music GmbH & Co. KG, Mainz. Classical. Downloadable. Op. 58. 9 pages. Schott Music - Digital #Q53345. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q53345). English • German.Another piece in Spanish style is the Capricho espagñol by Hubert Léonard. Like Charles de Bériot, Léonard was a Belgian violinist, composer and violin teacher. He began his studies at the Conservatoire in Brussels, moved to Paris to pursue further studies, played in various orchestras and toured all over Europe as a virtuoso performer. For a year he taught at the Royal Academy in Brussels, taking over from Bériot, but later returned to the French capital as a soloist, chamber musician, teacher and composer. Compositions by Léonard, who was a friend of Henri Vieuxtemps, include genres popular in his day: music for concert performance, tuition material and ‘delicacies’ to play at musical salons. Among them is Capricho espagñol, an effective little virtuoso showpiece dedicated to Léonard’s violin student Luis Sambucetti from Uruguay. Plate no. 24568, published in 1888.

Violin and piano - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q7069 Composed by Franz Ries. This edition: Sheet music. Violin Library. Wie ein Wirbelwind fegt das kleine Virtuosenstück vorüber, raubt aber hoffentlich nur dem Publikum, nicht den geigenden Interpreten den Atem! Downloadable. Op. 34/5. Schott Music - Digital #Q7069. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q7069). As a musician, Franz Ries (1846-1932) is almost forgotten today: the composer, violinist and 'Königl. Sächs. Hofmusikalienhändler' studied at the famous Paris Conservatoire to be a violinist. Then, the nephew of Beethoven's pupil and friend Ferdinand Ries started a glittering solo career which he had to end soon after for health reasons. From then on, he turned his whole attention to the music publishing business and occasionally even contributed little compositions, such as 'La Capricciosa' or the newly published 'Perpetuum mobile' Op. 34, to the programme of his publishing house. This is the fifth movement from his Suite No. 3 for violin and orchestra (or piano), created around 1870. The little virtuoso piece sweeps by like a whirlwind, hopefully taking only the listeners', not the violin playing performers' breath away!

Violin and piano - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q5730 Reprint. Composed by Stanley Weiner. This edition: Sheet music. Violin Library. Downloadable. Schott Music - Digital #Q5730. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q5730). Stanley Weiner (1925-1951) is mainly remembered as a performer: a solo violinist. His musical career was predetermined for his father served as assistant principal violinist to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. At the age of 8, little Stanley gave solo performances, auditioned for Leonard Bernstein in 1947 and thus became the youngest principal violinist of the New York Symphony Orchestra. Weiner's career as a composer started rather late, at the age of 35, but then he wrote over 200 works, particularly instrumental music of all genres. The 'Latin American Suite', dedicated to the violin virtuoso David Oistrach, is an effective work which begins with a sweeping virtuoso Allegro con brio. Baroque form, expressive melody and delicate sound effects are combined in the middle movement, headed Basso ostinato, until the work culminates in a rhythmically fresh and capricious Molto vivace.

(c) 2020 Schott Music GmbH & Co. KG, Mainz. Classical. Downloadable. 5 pages. Schott Music - Digital #Q53352. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q53352). For twenty-five years he toured Europe as a virtuoso violinist, settling in Switzerland for a while before returning to Budapest for the rest of his life. His chamber compositions include a series of little pieces very probably written for his own use at musical salons, along with character pieces reminiscent of his Hungarian homeland and exotic pieces such as Plaintes arabes (Arabian Lament), an expressive and mournful lament on the violin. Violin and piano - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6758 From: 6 Salon pieces. Composed by Louis Spohr. This edition: Sheet music. Violin Library. Downloadable. Op. 135/1. Schott Music - Digital #Q6758. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6758). Key: G major.Even as a child, the composer, violinist and teacher Louis Spohr caused a furore with his musical talent, and very soon his reputation as a brilliant violin virtuoso preceded him. On his numerous concert tours through the whole of Europe, he played time and again the concertos he had composed for his instrument or played his own works in smaller ensembles. Apart from these 'serious' chamber music works, i.e. sonatas, trios, quartets, etc., Spohr also wrote a number of salon pieces: the first series with six titles as opus 127 and the second as opus 135 which opens with the 'Barcarole in G major' presented here. The success of the salon pieces must have been great, and the composer liked to perform these pieces himself.

Violin and string orchestra - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q5713 Composed by Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf. This edition: piano reduction with solo part. Violin Library. Downloadable, Piano reduction with solo part. Op. Nr. 10. Schott Music - Digital #Q5713. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q5713). Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf (1739-1799) drew attention to himself even as a child due to his musical talent: At the age of seven he took violin lessons, only three years later he was hired as a violinist in Vienna and played little solos. His numerous compositions and particularly his 'singspiels' (song-plays) were very popular with the audience: Ditters von Dittersdorf's comedy 'Der Apotheker und der Doktor' even outdid Mozart's 'Le nozze di Figaro' in contemporary popularity in 1786. In 1766 Dittersdorf wrote the Violin Concerto in C major while being in service as leader of a music band in Großwardein, a post he had accepted in succession to Michael Haydn. The solo part was probably played by the composer himself at the first performance. The concerto is a work that is fun to play: A pleasant, particularly concertante Allegro moderato is followed by a playful cantabile Andante and a Presto as virtuoso finale.
