Unveiling written for string orchestra is an exploration of layers of sounds. Beginning with one solitary note, new aural strata gradually unfold in which multiple layers of counterpoint constantly shift, weave, and intersect until the tension is finally broken in an unveiling of a tender and fleeting soundscape. The closing section is a reversal of the opening in which the layers of sound gradually recede until only the opening solitary note remains. In this work, I return to my Polish heritage and the listener is likely to hear echoes of string writing of such composers as Grazyna Bacewicz, Romuald Twardowski, or Henryk Górecki.

Grandfather’s Clock- This old song from the late 1800’s is adapted and arranged for string orchestra, optional wood blocks and optional piano. It is in the key of G, uses pizzicato and arco techniques, p, mf, and f dynamics, 1st and 2nd endings and the articulation of accent/sustained. Violin 1 does not go above D while the cello and bass do go down to a C. Uses 2 eighths (detached and slurred), quarter, half and dotted- quarter notes. Suggested tempo is “A walking tempo at 92� and has a suggested grade of 1+.

This wonderful hymn tune is elegantly arranged in a classical style, not unlike a minuet, with excellent part-writing striving to maintain ease of learning. The lines blend beautifully, with some divisi sections thickening the texture, whilst the harmonies are attractive, making it enjoyable to perform. It would perhaps suit a school or amateur ensemble, and is a fine aid to worship. Highly recommended, this carefully designed arrangement is an excellent, highly musical item to include in your sacred music collection.

We Three Kings, also known as We Three Kings of Orient Are or The Quest of the Magi, is a Christmas carol that was written by John Henry Hopkins, Jr. in 1857. At the time of composing the carol, Hopkins served as the rector of Christ Episcopal Church in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and he wrote the carol for a Christmas pageant in New York City. Many versions of this song have been composed and it remains a popular Christmas carol. This intermediate level arrangement can be used for string quartet or string orchestra. It is in the string friendly key of e minor with no extremes in range or technique. Useful for performances at schools, churches or recitals.
