Sarabande is the second piece in a set of 3 under the title Pour le piano.  Published in 1901, it is referred to as being a ‘Memory of the Louvre’, which is the inscription at the head of the score. Whether is written as an impression of a specific painting or other work of art, it is a noble and elegant work.A saraband is a court dance from the 17th and 18th centuries. Set exclusively in triple meter, the dance requires a slower tempo. Debussy was drawn to older forms and sonorities, always recasting them with his unique melodic and harmonic language.This arrangement is for 5 Violins, 2 Violas, 2 Celli, and Contrabassoon.In addition to works by Debussy, we offer works by J.S. Its 2 melodies span 36 years. The first tune came to me when I was 8 years old and on holiday in the Co.Donegal town of Buncrana, west Ireland. Back then there was a small shop on Buncrana’s high street that sold everything from milk to DIY tools. And the name of the shop was “John Thinn And Son�. I thought this was an awesome name and I remember the shop owner, the real Mr. Thinn, being a lovely kindly, rather shy and gentle man. And this inspired my childhood mind’s character of Mr.Thinn the magic-toy maker.  The 2nd theme arrived in September 2011 as soon as I had decided that Mr.Thinn’s first tune had waited long enough and now needed to find a permanent home. Once again writing for the wonderful Banda di musica has given me a unique chance to release an old and very special melody that has lain neglected and home-less for over 3 decades. The resulting piece is light hearted, fun and in a simple ABA form.There are 2 arrangements;No. 1 – School Arrangement ; Violins 1, 2 and 3, Cellos 1 and 2No. 2 – Standard Arrangement ; Violins 1 and 2, Viola, Cello and Double BassThere are a few violin and cello solos throughout which are to be played by the section leaders. You can then imagine my amazement and amusement at around 13/14 years of age when I discovered through my music studies that a minuet was in fact a type of musical form and dance! Therefore, it went without saying that at some point in my music writing life I just HAD to write my Mum a minuet! So, here is the minuet she so often unwittingly asked me for throughout our lives! She attended the premiere of the Flute, violin and piano arrangement in Bolton, UK, and was highly amused (and not a little chuffed) by the story behind the piece!Naturally, the piece is dedicated to my mother, Margaret (Pearl) Denny, and was finally written in June 2015 for Gary Woolf and the Banda Di Musica in Germany.Its duration is about 7/8 minutes long and it is intended for junior strings. Violins 1 and 2 are of moderate difficulty, while the Violin 3/violas, cellos/basses are simpler.There is a violin solo throughout (moderate difficulty), to be played by the Leader, but is not a concerto-style solo, but rather one that weaves in and out of the texture throughout the piece.The piece is in a minuet and Trio style and is light, tuneful and fun. There are 3 arrangements available:No.1 – School Arrangement: Violins 1, 2 and 3, Cellos 1 and 2No.2 – Standard Arrangement: Violins 1 and 2, violas, cellos, Double bassesNo.3 – Violin, flute and piano.  This arrangement is of a more advanced standard than the string orchestra arrangements and would suit players of approximately grade 7 upwards.

ALL PURCHASES COME WITH SCORE AND PARTSAndante For Solo Violin and Strings - School ArrangementDuration – about 8 minutesThere are three arrangements available;School – for Solo Violin, Violins 1, 2 and 3, Cellos 1 and 2.  Standard – for Solo Violin, Violins 1 and 2, Viola, Cello and Double Bass.  Violin and piano.   Andante For Solo Violin And Strings was written in July 2018 for Gary Woolf, flautist and conductor of the Banda Di Musica, the youth string orchestra at the music school in Greven / Emsdetten / Saerbeck in Germany.The piece begins with a beautiful, melodic Andante where the melody alternates between the violin solo and the orchestra and giving out a mood of wistful calm. This soon leads into a lively folk-like Moderato Dance section with a great catchy tune and punchy rhythms. These two different sections compliment one another, adding variety and excitement as they repeat themselves half way through so that both melodies get plenty of work-out! The piece would very much suit young players, although amateurs and professionals alike can enjoy it.
