String Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533701 Composed by Carson Cooman. Baroque,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 77 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3038897. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533701). Concerto for Portatif Organ and Strings (2006) was commissioned by the Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra and its director, Robert Mealy. The work is dedicated to organist Nancy Granert, for whom the solo part was written. The work was commissioned in celebration of the von Clemm Chamber Organ at The Memorial Church, Harvard University, built in 2006 by Klop Organ Builders. As with many of my works, relationships between old and new musical concepts are explored. In this piece, musical aspects of the Baroque organ concerto tradition (and Baroque style string playing) co-exist with more contemporary musical elements. In particular, the directness of expression found in many Baroque concertante works is present throughout. Musical material is shared between the movements in a motivic fashion. The title of the first movement, Bricolage, is defined as “something made or put together using whatever materials happen to be available.†  Thus, the musical material for the movement is of varying characters; these elements are assembled together in ways that allow them to comment on and inform each other. Some of these musical elements include: a traditional “overture†texture, a Basse de Trompette texture (with an organ reed stop in the left hand) common in French Baroque organ music, and the French keyboard toccata style. The second movement, Elegia, is dark and searching in tone. It begins with a rageful roar before quieting down to introduce its basic musical material – a simple “lament†theme in a folk-inflected style. This material is used for further explorations, building to passionate climaxes. Finally, the opening music returns, but this time with a whisper. The movement winds down to a sad conclusion. After the soul-searching of the second movement, the third movement, Rondeau, is sprightly and energetic. The basic material is a set of Baroque and Classical-style figurations (with a few American gospel inflections thrown in), firmly grounded in G major. After minor diversions, the original material continues to return and ends the work with unfettered joy.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1206485 Composed by Simon Watkins. Contemporary. Score and parts. 32 pages. Simon Watkins #804688. Published by Simon Watkins (A0.1206485). A piece for string orchestra.  Borne of a growing sense of unease in 2019 about the direction of travel in the world, the dark and disturbing nature of this piece is I hope more catharsis than valediction.  Framed by six orchestral 'screams', a set of variations explores other emotional regions including sadness, resignation, mischief, stillness, hope and light.  The climax, though also a scream is however one of more defiance than frustration. If all that doesn't sound too gloomy, string orchestras of mixed capabilities might find this an enjoyable challenge!  Parts can be made available separately on this site.

Published by David Wang NecroDavid (A0.1030355). Induced Hope for String Orchestra is written through the inspiration of multiple pieces. There are three short sections. The first section consists of a joyful and brilliant major opening and transition to a minor tonality. The first section features some bends and special percussive sound effects. The second section is a romantic ballad, which explores tension and release cycles which resolves dissonant chords and create a relaxing feeling. The last section is sudden and abrupt, and begins with an unusual 7/4 fast pattern. The melody first plays on high strings and then varied on the low strings to create contrast. It builds up into a climax and finish with a few powerful and chords in rhythmic unison.

String Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1389128 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Kenneth Atkins. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. 90 pages. RēsFacta Editions #972651. Published by RēsFacta Editions (A0.1389128). Gabriel Fauré's Pelléas et Mélisande, Op. 80, is a suite of incidental music composed in 1898 for Maurice Maeterlinck's play of the same name. Fauré's composition is renowned for its delicate and evocative portrayal of the mysterious and tragic atmosphere of Maeterlinck's symbolist drama. The suite consists of four movements:    Prélude: The Prelude sets the mood for the entire piece, introducing listeners to the ethereal and melancholic world of Pelléas et Mélisande. Fauré's masterful orchestration creates an otherworldly atmosphere, with shimmering strings, delicate woodwinds, and haunting harmonies.    Fileuse: This movement, often translated as Spinning Song, depicts Mélisande at her spinning wheel. The music captures the hypnotic rhythm of spinning, with gentle, flowing melodies and a sense of introspection.    Sicilienne: The Sicilienne is perhaps the most famous movement of the suite. Its graceful melody, accompanied by a gentle dance-like rhythm, evokes a sense of nostalgia and longing. Fauré's use of the Sicilian rhythm lends the piece a timeless quality, transporting listeners to a world of beauty and sorrow.    Mort de Mélisande: The suite concludes with the Death of Mélisande. This movement is a powerful culmination of the emotional journey depicted throughout the music. Fauré's music reflects the tragic climax of Maeterlinck's play, with poignant melodies and rich harmonies conveying a sense of grief and finality.Overall, Fauré's Pelléas et Mélisande Op. 80 is a masterpiece of impressionistic music, capturing the emotional depth and beauty of Maeterlinck's timeless tale.

Soprano solo or unison treble choir, violin, harp, and organ or string orchestra - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8103-E Composed by David Conte. 9/11 Service, Funeral. Instrument part. 8 pages. Duration 12 minutes, 30 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8103-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8103-E). Latin.Commissioned by the American Music Research Center, Boulder, Colorado, Thomas Riis, director, in loving memory of Don Campbell. The work received its premiere performance at l’Église de la Sainte-Trinité, Paris, on October 24, 2013 by Alexis Galpérine, violin, Magali Léger, soprano, Saori Kikuchi, harp, and Carolyn Shuster Fournier, organist. The work consists of  three Latin texts from the Requiem Mass. The first, Exaudi, is in “Larghetto†tempo and serves as a prelude. The second, Dies Iræ, marked “Allegro agitato,†is an intense and dark scherzo in D minor with chromatic runs in the organ and violin which accompany the soprano. A central, more lyrical section follows based on the “Lacrymosa†text in a slower tempo, leading to the song’s only serene moment: “Pie Jesu Domine.†The “Dies Irae†music returns, and the song ends violently and decisively. The third song, In Paradisum, introduces the harp. The soprano melody is modeled very closely on the Gregorian chant based on this text. A gentle climax occurs on the text “habeas eternam,†and the song slowly winds down to its end, having laid to rest life’s struggles in the eternity of heaven. Duration: 12:30.

Published by Visionary Quest Records (A0.984565). Pathétique means to move someone emotionally - to evoke sadness, to evoke pity. Pathétique was composed by Tito Abeleda for string orchestra. Influenced by Samuel Barber, Tito wrote this original poignant piece as a means to catharsis for processing sadness, reflection, and deep contemplation. Pathétique begins with an expressive violin solo, which sets the melodic motif and tone for the entire piece. Pathétique slowly builds, adding each string part as its own contrapuntal layer, which creates ever-growing, rich, lush harmonies that seeks to climb to the pinnacle of musical climax, resonating the fullness of emotional release. Stylistically evocative of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings and the distinctive musical language of Arvo P¤rt, Lament is based around a two-bar arching ostinato, artfully developing musical fragments and enriching the texture to reach a powerful central climax. This is a welcome addition to the string orchestra repertory. This piece was recorded on the 2019 Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra CD Tree of Life under the title 'And Wept Bitterly (Lament on an Ostinato for String Orchestra)'.
