By Keith Terrett. By Unknown. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Instructional,Multicultural,Patriotic,Standards,Traditional,World. 13 pages. Keith Terrett #1080689. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1505305).

Kong Christian stod ved højen mast (Danish pronunciation: [k??? ?k??estjæn ?stoð? ve? ?h?j?n? mæst]; King Christian stood by the lofty mast), commonly shortened to Kong Christian, is the unofficial royal anthem of Denmark that officially has equal status of national anthem together with Der er et yndigt land (There is a Lovely Country), though it is almost exclusively used in relation to the Danish royal house and the military. The theme of the song is the heroics of Danish and Norwegian sailors during the wars against Sweden (including the Torstenson War) in the 17th and 18th centuries.

On New Year's Eve, it is tradition to sing along as the Danmarks Radio Girl's Choir sing the song on television, immediately after midnight following the other national anthem. Usually, only the first verse is sung on official occasions. Adopted in 1780, it is one of the oldest national anthems in the world.

By Michael Blostein. By Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Michael Blostein. Classical,Contest,Festival,Historic,Instructional,Romantic Period. Score and Parts. 28 pages. Michael D. Blostein #849775. Published by Michael D. Blostein (A0.1256304).

Beethoven’s Six Ländler for Two Violins and Bass, WoO 15 – the basis for this work - constitute his second and final set of these forms of German dance, written as a commission for the annual dances at the Vienna Redoutensaal. Both sets were apparently intended for actual events of social dancing.

This set likely date from early 1802, when Beethoven was working intensely on his second symphony.

This arrangement for string orchestra requires shifting into 2nd position for the first violins in one section, and the viola (as well as 3rd violin if used) and 2nd violins are required to go into half position for two sections. Cellos need to extend. The requirements for the bass are minimal, but the bass players can play the cello part (with appropriate fingering and position alterations) and the piece works. The second violins do not need to shift, but some of the string crossing (shared with the first violins) can be a bit tricky.

This piece works best at a faster tempo (in 1), but can work at a slower tempo (a fast 3).

Composed by John Grady. 20th Century,Contemporary,Renaissance. Score and parts. 15 pages. John Grady #3382313. Published by John Grady (A0.881463).

RENAISSANCE MIX is a series of 5 dances from the Renaissance: Basse Danse, Tordion, Pavane, Galliard, and Brawles (Branles). The dances chosen to use as a basis for this composition are taken from a publication by Jacque Moderne published about 1550 under the title Frohliche Musik. These dances are truly music of great fun, and as the title suggests, happiness and joy.

Renaissance Mix is written for an advanced string ensemble, or chamber group, from high school musicians through college, or amateur and professional groups. The music is accessible to players and listeners alike. It is tuneful, has powerful rhythms with interesting advanced harmonies, and deeply emotional.
