In order to capture the attention of the diverse types of learners in my orchestra I composed this piece with the intention of the students writing a background story (or liner notes) for the work. Using familiar themes from the French tune Il est né le Divin Enfant (in a minor key) and a portion of the Irish ballad Star of the County Down I created an interesting pirate sounding shanty.
