I would like to present my first string orchestra, Walk Among The Gods. It includes a director's score, as well as individual parts for Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Violoncello, and Contrabass. This composition is centered around Greek Mythology by highlighting a different character in each movement; Aphrodite, Hades, Kronos and Zeus.

Aphrodite: Dance With The Goddess of Love is written as a Polonaise (Polish dance) in a Rondo format. This movement is taken at an Andante.

Hades: March to the Underworld is a haunting march written in G minor. I composed this in cut time at an Allegro Moderato. This is definitely my favorite of all four movements.
 
Kronos: The God of Time is comprised of many different time signatures to go along with its meaning; 5/4, 6/8, 12/8, 4/4, 6/4, 3/8 and 3/4. 
 
 Zeus: King of the Gods is meant to create a regal, but triumphant feel as the finale. I also had fun writing a good portion of this movement pizzicato.

Being of Italian heritage I especially thought it would be fun to compose The Godmother  which contains very small hints of the theme from The Godfather throughout.  See if you can pick them out. Thinking back into my past I visualized all my Italian relatives in the family and the life style we led which helped give the composition that Italian flair. I truly believe you, your students and your audience will enjoy this piece. Written for the Intermediate level the composition includes full score and parts for Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello and St. Bass. God Bless the U.S.A. (also known as Proud to Be an American) is an American patriotic song written and recorded by American country music artist Lee Greenwood, and is considered to be his signature song. The first album it appears on is 1984's You've Got a Good Love Comin'. It reached No. 7 on the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles chart when originally released in the spring of 1984, and was played at the 1984 Republican National Convention with President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan in attendance, but the song gained greater prominence during the Gulf War in 1990 and 1991, as a way of boosting morale, and was re-included on his 1992 album American Patriot as a result of its newfound popularity.

The popularity of the song rose sharply after the September 11 attacks and during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and the song was re-released as a single, re-entering the country music charts at No. 16 and peaking at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart in 2001. The song was also re-recorded in 2003 and released as God Bless the U.S.A. 2003. Greenwood also wrote a Canadian version of this song called God Bless You Canada. The song has sold over a million copies in the United States by July 2015.

This version is arranged in D concert for String Orchestra / Quartet plus Optional Drum Set at the Intermediate Level.

God Rest You Merry Gentlemen, traditional Christmas carol, arranged by Tim Crooks for String Ensemble (ABRSM Beginner - grade 5).

This jazzy 7/8 version cranks up the traditional carol into more of a party rendition, but remaining regular enough so it can still be sung by a congregation or school choir. Perfect for ending carol services and Christmas performances.

Technical challenges are mostly rhythmic, but 7/8 patterns are strong and repeat so is suitable for good intermediate groups (ABRSM grade 4+).

The arrangement also includes an optional easy part for Violin & Viola suitable for ABRSM grade 2+ level players.

Piano and percussion parts are included but are optional for performance.

About the arranger

Tim Crooks trained as a violinist and violist, working professionally in Manchester (UK) for many years. He was a founding member of the Manchester String Quartet and scored many arrangements for the group's recordings. Tim now orchestrates and conducts, working with orchestras including Manchester Camerata, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, RTÉ Concert Orchestra and the Philharmonia.
