When I started writing this piece, I didn’t have a title in mind but as it developed, I began to think that it sounded like a mixture of different bird song in one place. The only thing I was sure about was, I wanted it to be minimalist in style with ideas morphing into each other and letting that process shape the music.   “The Menagerie� is written for String Orchestra and is around 8’ 25� in duration. From the initial one note pedal tone, the piece evolves providing melodic and rhythmic nuances which create the music and direction.
