String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.509281 Composed by Janice Malan. Instructional,Jazz,Standards. Score and parts. 79 pages. Janice Malan #6331657. Published by Janice Malan (A0.509281). Jazzy Strings is an upbeat original jazz piece for intermediate string orchestras with optional drum set and piano accompaniment. If you are teaching improvisation to your orchestra, there is an 8 measure vamp section just for improv solos of any instrument. If you do not want to improv, just mark out that section. What a delight to introduce the strings to a sample of a jazzy tune . Great piece for concert. If you have want to add jazz band to your ensemble, see my version called Jazzy. This includes the jazz band version plus strings. Have Fun and Enjoy!

String Orchestra - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.759592 Composed by Mark Lansom. Broadway,Instructional,Jazz,Standards. Score and parts. 13 pages. Mark Lansom #6266657. Published by Mark Lansom (A0.759592). Music for beginner and first-year string players with performance in mind. Despite this piece being playable with only open strings and first finger, the backing track makes it sound much more complex and advanced! The following are assumed to be learnt in advance:  Violin 1 / Viola 1 / Cello 1 / Double Bass: Crotchets (quarter notes), minims (half notes) and dotted minims (dotted half notes), crotchet rests (quarter rests). Open strings and first finger one tone higher on G, D and A strings. Violin A / Viola A (A for advanced): the above plus second and third fingers making the tone-tone-semitone shape from the open string. Violoncello A: the above plus all four fingers in first shape. The use of second finger is clearly marked.  As many or a few parts as required can perform the piece, though the 1 parts have the true melody if used alone. Admittedly the Double Bass part musically interferes with the bass part of the backing track but is added for inclusion purposes.  The backing track adds considerably and is essential for the performance. It can be bought separately from the same website. If there are any problems or requests please get in touch with the composer through his website at www.marklansom.com

String Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.826627 Composed by Bud Caputo. Jazz,Latin,Pop. Score and parts. 35 pages. Bud Caputo #3089589. Published by Bud Caputo (A0.826627). The Brazilian Bossa Nova  took over the jazz world in the mid-sixties and has become a favorite style of music for many musicians, using songs of The Great American Songbook, authentic Latin tunes, and original compositions.  This selection is an original standard 32 bar tune and includes some room for improvisation but where written-out solos are always provided.  The true flavor of the arrangement is enhanced by the addition of a guitar, drum-set, piano, and electric bass.  The traditional bass section may double the bass line but should be omitted in the jazz improvisation section where just the solo bass is preferred.

String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1271389 By Duke Ellington. By Duke Ellington/Barney Bigard. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Instructional,Jazz,Standards. 14 pages. Keith Terrett #863787. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1271389). C Jam Blues is a jazz standard composed in 1942 by Duke Ellington and performed by countless other musicians, such as Dave Grusin, Django Reinhardt, Oscar Peterson, and Charles Mingus, arranged here for String Orchestra. As the title suggests, the piece follows a twelve-bar blues form in the key of C major. The tune is well known for being extremely easy to play, with the entire melody featuring only two notes: G and C.A performance typically features several improvised solos. The melody likely originated from the clarinetist Barney Bigard in 1941, but its origin is not perfectly clear. It was also known as Duke's Place, with lyrics added by Bill Katts, Bob Thiele and Ruth Roberts.Ellington's black and white film was produced in 1942. The video depicts a jam session where Ellington begins playing with a double bass before gradually being joined by other members of his band, among them drummer Sonny Greer and trumpeter Rex Stewart. The film title is Jam Session. Western Swing band leader Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys recorded the song sometime between 1945 and 1947 as part of the Tiffany Transcriptions. Bill Doggett recorded a version on his 1958 tribute album Salute to Duke Ellington (King). C Jam Blues was used by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band as the basis of their song The Intro and the Outro. Mulgrew Miller and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen included the song in their 1999 album The Duets. The Dave Brubeck Quartet performed this live at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival; the recording appears in their album Newport 1958. YouTube Link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOlpcJhNyDI.
