A Great Big Boo is a piece taken from The Scampering Scarecrow, a book I   wrote for string players.  It is written for violin, viola, and cello.
This piece is one of ten pieces written for this book.  It is a great piece for young players as there is a third violin and piano included in the
arrangement.  In addition, there are warmup scales and exercises pertaining to the piece.  A great piece for young musicians.

Peek-a-Boo-Ghost is a fun piece written for young string players. The piece was originally found in my book The Scampering Scarecrow written for solo violin, viola, and cello.  The orchestral composition comes with additional parts for piano and third violin. In addition, the score includes warmup
scales and rhythm patterns.

for solo violin but now have been re-arranged for string orchestra.  The score is written for both Third Violin and pianol.
The third violin is helpful for those students who are new to stringed instruments.  I have found in the past that a student 
will start on the third violin part but transfers to second violin as a result of the experience with third violin.
     This is an entertaining piece for all members of the orchestra.

A Winter's Lament was written during our western Canada winter of 2015.  Although it tends to be a hospitable climate, it also tends, at times to be very grey and wet during the winter months.  With that in mind, I wrote this fiddle ballad which records, in  the opening, my thoughts about the bright, warm spring months to come.  The middle section tends to be somewhat melancholic about the greyness of our winter, but it, in turn, is followed by a recap of what we can look forward to when winter actually departs and spring sunshine returns.  This orchestral composition gives the violins, violas and celli and opportunity to express the melody.

I wrote this piece after listening to the Herbie Mann album Impressions of the Middle East from 1967. I was intrigued with the sounds and styles he was able to blend together for that album. Since my compositions are marketed for school-based ensembles, I wanted to try my hand at creating a piece that had a Middle-Eastern vibe, by using a harmonic minor mode. This piece is written in D-Phrygian Dominant mode (scale degrees are as follows: 1, b2, 3, 4, 5, b6, b7). Look out for low 1, 2, and low 4 fingerings.

This arrangement has been written for strings (including Violin III) and percussion.  The percussion parts include xylophone, woodblock and marimba.  The arrangement is very suitable for intermediate string orchestra and percussion members.  A great arrangement for the Christmas season.
