Grade 3:  Songwriter Stephen Foster (1826-1864) has been called the 'Father of American Music' having written more than 200 pieces, including those in this arrangement (My Old Kentucky Home, Oh! Suzanna, Old Folks at Home, Camptown Races, and Jeannie with the Light Brown Hair). This arrangement employs melody and countermelody with all instrumentalists to help them hear the line and better develop their technique.

This arrangement of the popular folk song/hymn has been written for String Orchestra with optional piano, tympani, and snare drum. The composition includes the original melody and a development section of five stylistic variations. Intended for intermediate string orchestras with advancing skills (level 3.5), there is an optional first violin part that can be performed by more advanced players. To provide additional flexible scoring options, this arrangement also includes an optional violin part which doubles the viola part with appropriate register changes. The performance duration of this selection is about six minutes and 30 seconds at the suggested tempo markings.
