That's OK, you know you can do it under normal circumstances but they give you an impossibly short deadline to sort it out. I don't know about you but I think I might panic! Well, that's what happened to Paisiello. The Grand Duke Alexander needed a new opera for his wedding anniversary and pure Paisiello had to come up with the goods. Paisiello found a libretto, liked the story but needed it reworked. So not only did he manage to get the libretto rewritten but he also composed some great music. This Overture is just good old play! This is a fun piece that I think young musicians will enjoy.  The percussion parts provide the train sounds. I envisioned this piece as sort of a story in which the train arrives at the station to pick up passengers and then makes stops along the way to pick up additional passengers, represented by the different sections of the orchestra. This is a string orchestra adaptation of the full orchestral version I wrote in 2007.  (Listen to the complete recording of this string orchestra adaptation by clicking the YouTube link.)When I began Ocean Voyage, I was thinking about how my father and my grandparents left their families and the comfort of familiar surroundings in Italy and immigrated to America for a new life during the early part of the 20th Century.Just as there is an element of danger in taking a trip across the ocean, there is the excitement of the voyage and the promise of a new experience in a place you have never been before.  The trip itself is an adventure since you will spend several days aboard the ship, and in days that have long since faded from the calendar, these trips took weeks and even months. This piece attempts to capture the spirit of the adventure and excitement of such a trip.The piece starts with the sounding of the horn as the ship embarks.  This leads to a beautiful lyrical section and later there is a spritely gigue.  Through these various sections I attempted to capture the various moods of the passengers during various stages of this long, exciting journey.  ASCAP.
