Published by Keith Terrett (A0.746694). Arrangement of That's a Plenty for String Orchestra. That’s a Plenty arranged for String Orchestra, is a 1914 ragtime piano piece composed by Lew Pollack. Lyrics by Ray Gilbert (born 1912) were added decades later. A number of popular vocal versions have been recorded, but the tune remains more performed as an instrumental. The composition started out as a rag, but is nowadays played as a part of the Dixieland jazz repertoire. The song has been recorded by numerous artists, and it is considered a jazz standard. The first recording was in 1917 by Prince’s Band, and the New Orleans Rhythm Kings recorded their rendition in 1923.Television comedian Jackie Gleason used it in his shows in the 1950s and 1960s. Among the hundreds of later recordings of this standard, particularly notable versions include: Freddy Martin and His Orchestra recorded a version of That’s A Plenty in 1950. Sheet music from the 1950 version featuring Freddy Martin on the cover has the lyrics printed inside. It was recorded by Albert Nicholas, clarinet, with The Big Chief Jazz Band in Oslo on August 29, 1955. Released on the 78 rpm record Philips P 53038. The Pollack and Gilbert song is not to be confused with a 1909 song of the same name by Henry Creamer and Bert Williams. Even though the musical example is a MIDI it was blessed by our Dear Lord in that this recording is, in the opinion of the composer, better than most MIDI renditions. In this world of uncertainty and turmoil this is meant to comfort the listener on its own, or be background to appropriate scripture reading and in general musically bless whomever hears this to get closer to the Lord and Savior and know that prayers are always answered, not necessarily in our time but in His time. I personally have been blessed and through this composition am trying to share my feelings of comfort and gratitude. This composition is not limited to Church orchestras per se, but to any group of musicians who love the Lord and want to share with all listeners the spirit of comfort and gratitude. The PDF downloaded has the score and all parts. The picture on the title page is of the beautiful mountains of North Carolina.

Arranged by an orchestra teacher with school orchestras in mind, instrument parts contain bowings and fingerings to help students and save time during rehearsals. Originally released in 1985, Running Up That Hill reached the top of the charts in 2022 after being featured on the Netflix series, “Stranger Things.� Violin 1 and Viola 1 are identical parts to offer melody to strong violists. Range is D string to D on the A string with only two low 2 fingerings. Violin 2 and Viola 2 are not identical, but both provide harmony with a range from D string to B on the A string. Violin 2 has a few notes on the G string. Cello and Bass add a bass line and exciting driving rhythm. Cello range is from C (natural- no extended 4) to B on the A string. Bass range is from C (natural) on the A string to E on the D string. (no shifting).
