There are lots of songs that were popular during the Revolutionary war.  Here are five of the most popular.  The World Turned Upside Down, Yankee Doodle, Washington's March at the Battle of Trenton, Johnny Has Gone For a Soldier, The Girl I Left Behind Me, and the famous hymn and march by America's own William Billings.  These are wonderful songs, and very well suited for any concert, history lesson, or for Veterans Day.  Complete with program notes.

I arranged this beautiful melody with the intermediate string orchestra in mind. In an effort to make it as playable as possible, I wrote the entire arrangement in 1st position only. I included a modulation to the key of E major, and some challenging rhythmic figures from letter B to letter D. It is important to note that the tempo is to remain constant throughout the arrangement. I hope you and your students enjoy playing my arrangement. Thank you!    -Mark Hettle
