Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, commonly known as Sonata Pathétique, was written in 1798 when the composer was 27 years old, and was published in 1799. It has remained one of his most celebrated compositions. The famous cantabile melody is played three times, separated by two modulating episodes. Several rock artists have also sampled the adagio, like Kiss and Billie Joel. The 2nd Movement were featured and played by Schroeder in the 1969 animated films A Boy Named Charlie Brown and It's the Pied Piper, Charlie Brown. This arrangement for cello with piano accompaniment is suitable for classroom, repertoire and recital.

Scheherazade, also commonly Sheherazade Op. 35, is a symphonic suite composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov in 1888 and based on One Thousand and One Nights (also known as The Arabian Nights). This orchestral work combines two features typical of Russian music in general and of Rimsky-Korsakov in particular: dazzling, colorful orchestration and an interest in the East, which figured greatly in the history of Imperial Russia, as well as orientalism in general. The name Scheherazade refers to the main character Scheherazade of the One Thousand and One Nights. It is one of Rimsky-Korsakov's most popular works. This arrangement for cello with piano accompaniment of the most famous themes of the suite is suitable for classroom, repertoire and recital.

La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin (commonly translated to The Girl with the Flaxen Hair) by Claude Debussy is the eighth of the composer's Préludes, Book I (1909-1910), and is one of his most recorded pieces to date.

This is a setting of two old hymn tunes, Retreat and Rockingham, originally arranged as a choral anthem with violin obbligato but here rearranged as a cello solo with piano. Also available as a violin solo, it is suitable as prelude or offertory music. The first tune, Retreat, is most commonly found in American hymnbooks for the hymn From Every Stormy Wind that Blows, hence the title, but in the United Kingdom mostly Communion hymns are sung to these melodies. Rockingham is often used as the tune for When I Survey the Wondrous Cross. If the title is to be printed in a church bulletin I recommend using whichever hymn is most familiar in the context as the title! A MIDI recording is provided. This lovely hymn is based on a traditional Irish melody known as Slane but is most commonly heard as the hymn Be Thou My Vision.  It features more modern harmony (major 7th and 9th) chords) and a brief written out improv for the cello in Eb before modulating to G major and a strong finish featuring double stops in the cello.
