Composed by David Popper. Arranged by David Popper. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score and part. 53 pages. Paladino Editions #872845. Published by Paladino Editions (A0.1281505).

Op. 16bis is Popper’s own arrangement of his Suite for Two Violoncellos, Op. 16. It is infectious, vibrant and dazzling music well within the grasp of any advanced cello student, and a must for professionals. Performers can read from clean, newly typeset parts with either Popper’s own original bowings and fingerings or modern performance directions by Alexander Hülshoff. The suite comprises five movements that progress through popular dance types and character pieces. It incorporates for the first time, as Popper intended, his Tempo di Marcia as a simpler but still compelling alternative finale.

By Ferdinand Ries. By Ferdinand Ries. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score and part. 40 pages. Paladino Editions #872952. Published by Paladino Editions (A0.1281610).

Trois Airs Russes Variés pour le Piano-forte et Violoncelle ou Violon Concertans, Op. 72, was written in 1812, while Ries was on tour in Russia with virtuoso cellist Bernhard Romberg. A virtuoso display piece for both instruments, it is a potpourri of three Russian tunes. Two cello parts are included in this edition by Cole Tutino and Martin Rummel: one as printed in the first edition, and one with fingerings and bowings by Martin Rummel.

Composed by Nicolo Paganini. Arranged by Martin Rummel. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score and part. 9 pages. Paladino Editions #865829. Published by Paladino Editions (A0.1273684).

Niccolò Paganini wrote his Cantabile, Op. 17, in 1824, at the height of his career. It could almost be regarded to be an antipode to his image of the bewitched violinist – in 1820, he had published the famous Capricci Op. 1 with Ricordi. The fact that Paganini himself never played his most famous virtuoso pieces in concert has long been forgotten. All his other compositions are proof of his legendary art of violin playing which, according to a number of different legends, had its origin in a pact with the devil.

Composed by Ferdinand Ries. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score and part. 68 pages. Paladino Editions #878361. Published by Paladino Editions (A0.1287344).

Ferdinand Ries’ second cello sonata was written for Bernhard Romberg in 1808, who performed frequently with Beethoven at that time. The title Grande Sonate clearly refers to the aim to excel music written for amateurs at home.

This first modern edition of the piece contains two cello parts: One without any markings, reflecting the first edition, and one with suggestions for bowings and fingerings from the editor, renowned cellist Martin Rummel.

By Moritz Moszkowski. By Moritz Moszkowski. Arranged by Martin Rummel. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score and part. 9 pages. Paladino Editions #872954. Published by Paladino Editions (A0.1281611).

Born in Breslau, Moritz Moszkowski studied in Dresden and Berlin. Today he is known as the teacher of Sir Thomas Beecham and also through the legendary performances of his Étincelles by Vladimir Horowitz. From 1897 until his death in 1925, he lived in Paris, having neither success nor money. His Guitarre is one of two piano pieces Opus 45 and has been subject to various arrangements for strings. Cellist Martin Rummel in his transcription adds some virtuoso touch to Moszkowski’s own version for cello and piano, as previously done by Gregor Piatigorsky.

Composed by David Popper. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score and part. 39 pages. Paladino Editions #872852. Published by Paladino Editions (A0.1281512).

Looking at David Popper’s Walzer-Suite, Op. 60, from the perspective of its surrounding opus numbers, it dates most probably from the late 1880s. As with so many others of his pieces, this suite was mainly written for his own performances. At the time of its composition Popper was still married to Sophie Menter and at the peak of his solo career. Besides the obvious similarities to the works of the Strauß dynasty, the musical language of Richard Strauss can already be found in Popper’s Waltz Suite. Like Josef Merk’s Valses Brillantes, Op. 6, the work is a series of waltzes framed by an introduction and a virtuoso finale which are linked by a mutual theme. This newly typeset edition provides two cello parts: one with Popper's original markings, and one with performance suggestions by Martin Rummel.
