Cello and piano - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q16462 Composed by Heinz Holliger. This edition: Sheet music. Cello Library. Downloadable. Duration 22 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q16462. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q16462). In 1853 Robert Schumann composed five piano-accompanied cello romances. The works were never published though as Clara Schumann destroyed the unpublished manuscript in 1893, 40 years after they were written. In his six duo pieces for violoncello and piano, Heinz Holliger refers to these compositions which turned to ash: the title is a combination of the French words ā€˜romances’ and ā€˜cendres’. Many allusions are hidden in the music itself. In the opening procession part, for example, one can hear Clara Schumann’s initials C and eS [E flat], a letter of Brahms to Clara is recited by the piano, and the last figure of the final part is formed from the tones of his place of death, EnDEniCH. But both amateur and experienced listeners will at once be gripped by Holliger’s music. This work is affecting – not only by its complex conception but mainly by its intense sonority.

Cello,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1314243 Composed by Camille Saint-Saens. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Contest,Festival,Historic,Romantic Period,Wedding. Score and part. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #902984. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1314243). Saint-SaĆ«ns: The Swan (Le Cygne) movement 13 from the Carnival of the Animals Suite. One of his most popular and widely recognized works, it is the only movement from the Carnival Suite that Saint-SaĆ«ns permitted to be performed publicly during his lifetime. This is an excellent recital encore to demonstrate melodic playing and strategic phrasing. The Carnival of the AnimalsThe Carnival of the Animals is an entertaining musical suite of fourteen movements by Camille Saint-SaĆ«ns. The work was composed for private performance by an ensemble of two pianos and solo instruments. The Swan (No. 13) is among the fourteen most famous movements. In its entirety, it lasts about 25 minutes. Saint-SaĆ«ns BackgroundCharles-Camille Saint-SaĆ«ns 1835 – 1921) was, by all means, in particular, a famous French composer, brilliant organist, and significant musical mastermind of the Romantic era. Indeed, his most famous compositions, in the long run, include his Piano Concerto No. 2 (1868), Cello Concerto No. 1 (1872), and the Danse macabre (1874). Notwithstanding, we must also add Violin Concerto No. 3 (1880), Symphony No. 3 (the Organ Symphony, 1886), and, it must be remembered, Carnival of the Animals (1886) to the list. ChildhoodIt is essential to realize that Saint-SaĆ«ns was undoubtedly, in fact, a child musical prodigy. Consequently, with this in mind, he made his concert debut, albeit at ten years old. Another critical point to remember is that he expressly studied at the Paris Conservatoire, then, despite reality, conversely followed a traditional career path as a church organist. Nevertheless, twenty years later, on the other hand, he left to become a successful freelance pianist and composer despite, as has been noted, his former employment situation. Furthermore, his performances were, after all, markedly in demand - not only in Europe but, above all, in the Americas all in all as well. YouthA point often overlooked is that in his youth, Saint-SaĆ«ns was undoubtedly excited about the modern music of the day. He was, in essence, fond of the music of his contemporaries, particularly Schumann, Liszt, and, for the most part, Wagner. In contrast, however, his compositions seemed, in fact, primarily confined within the conservative classical tradition. Be that as it may, he was, at the same time, nevertheless, a scholar of musical history.CriticismOn the whole, his conservatism, in fact, ultimately brought him into frequent conflict in his later years with composers of the impressionist and, in particular, the dodecaphonic schools of musical thought. A point often overlooked is that he included neoclassical elements in his music, contrary to some critics. Furthermore, in so doing, he provided the most compelling evidence that he predicted the techniques and works by Stravinsky and Les Six. To put it another way, given these points, he was regarded, perhaps for the most part unfairly, as a non-progressive reactionary henceforth around the time of his passing. LegacySaint-SaĆ«ns taught briefly in Paris, where his students included Gabriel FaurĆ©. Maurice Ravel later studied with FaurĆ©. In conclusion, both Ravel and FaurĆ© were powerfully influenced by Saint-SaĆ«ns, whom they respected as a musical mastermind.

Cello,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1197751 By Gabriel Fauré, Yo Yo Ma and Kathryn Stott. By Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Flavio Regis Cunha. Classical,Contest,Festival,Film/TV,Instructional,Romantic Period. Score and part. 6 pages. Flavio Regis Cunha #796933. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.1197751). Après un rêve (Op. 7, No. 1) for cello and piano (as played by Yo Yo Ma and Kathryn StottTrois mélodies is a set of mélodies for solo voice and piano, by Gabriel Fauré. It consists of Après un rêve (Op. 7, No. 1), one of Faure's most popular vocal pieces, Hymne (Op. 7, No. 2), and Barcarolle (Op. 7, No. 3). The songs were written between 1870 and 1877, and published in 1878. They were not, however, originally conceived together as a set of three; the opus number 7 was imposed on them retrospectively in the 1890s, almost 20 years after their first publications.[citation needed]Après un rêveIn Après un rêve (After a dream), a dream of romantic flight with a lover, away from the earth and towards the light, is described. However, upon awakening, the dreamer longs to return to the mysterious night and the ecstatic falsehood of his dream. The text of the poem is an anonymous Italian poem freely adapted into French by Romain Bussine.Intermediate.Format: Concert, 9 x 12 inches.6 pages.

Cello,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1252822 By Maria Thompson Corley. By Maria Thompson Corley. Arranged by Maria Thompson Corley. 21st Century,Sacred. Score and part. 9 pages. Maria Thompson Corley #846622. Published by Maria Thompson Corley (A0.1252822). ā€œPax Aeternamā€ was written in memory of renowned composer Barbara York, a fellow Canadian whom I was blessed enough to meet in person through my interaction with Matt Brown. Though we connected many years into my collaborative piano career, Matt is the first tubist I ever worked with, and Barbara’s music was my favorite part of getting introduced to the tuba literature. I was thrilled to learn how much she appreciated my playing of her work.ā€œHow Beautifulā€ was written in memory of Matt’s son Eli, who had a congenital condition that took his life a few hours after he was born. This flawless piece of music, poignant yet never maudlin, provided the title for a recording Matt and I did of all of Barbara’s tuba output. It also threw down the gauntlet when Danny Rowland approached me, at Matt’s suggestion, about composing a piece. Danny mentioned loving ā€œHow Beautiful,ā€ and intending to commission Barbara, who’d recently passed on. I’d never written for the tuba before, but felt absolutely no pressure. That’s a lie.Like ā€œHow Beautiful,ā€ ā€œPax Aeternamā€ is in a major key; in my case, I wanted to evoke wistfulness rather than despair. Barbara’s path was full of suffering, and having lost a brother to prolonged illness, I’ve come to embrace the idea that death can be a sweet relief from pain. I tried to capture some of Barbara’s spirit, particularly in the middle section, and chose triple meter to give the outer sections a bit of ā€œswing.ā€ I don’t recall Barbara as a somber person, and I wanted to paint a portrait of someone who moved through life with a smile. I didn’t know her as well as many, but I always found her kind, generous, and unpretentious. I hope that this musical portrait does her justice.I created a cello transcription for a performance with Sara Male, my partner in Duo Chiaroscuro. This seemed appropriate, since ā€œStill Waters Running Deep,ā€ one of our signature pieces, is a transcription of the slow movement of Barbara’s bassoon sonata, created at our request by the composer.

Cello,Piano - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1240302 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ander. Classical,Folk,March,Opera,Romantic Period. Score and part. 6 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #835672. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1240302). This arrangement adapted for violoncello and piano was written keeping the characteristics of the original work, in order to be performed by young music students who want to enter the symphonic music. Besides, it can also be used by professional musicians, for recitals, repertoire, academic presentations and didactic material. As much as it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion. The transcription is faithful to the structure, with only one change of key, so that it is comfortable for all the instruments in the formation, as well as for use in ensemble practice between musicians of different traditions.Ludwig van Beethoven began concentrated work on his Symphony No. 7 in A major Op. 92 in 1811, it was completed in 1812, and was dedicated to Count Moritz von Fries, and premiered in Vienna on December 8, 1813. It is considered a remarkable example of the more ebullient side of Beethoven's compositional personality and evidence that even after the onset of deafness, he still found cause for musical optimism. The second movement Allegretto is a funeral march in everything but name. Often several contrasting melodic ideas are made to coexist, as if Beethoven were imagining several processions converging on the cemetery at the same time. As he was working on this symphony during the years of the Napoleonic Wars, this experience was probably within his experience. It was also used as the soundtrack to the film Knowing, by director Alex Proyas and starring Nicolas Cage, where it is used in the final scene of the film. Beethoven called Symphony No. 7 his most excellent symphony, and a music critic of the time reported, this symphony is the most melodically rich and the most pleasing and comprehensible of all Beethoven's symphonies..

Cello,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.592557 Composed by Jule Styne. Arranged by David McKeown. Contemporary. Score and part. 6 pages. David McKeown #6366373. Published by David McKeown (A0.592557). It’s Been a Long Long Time is arranged as a solo for one Cello with Piano accompaniment. It’s Been a Long Long Time is best known to modern audiences as the song at the end of The Avengers, Endgame, where Steve Rogers, after seventy years, finally gets his dance with Peggy Carter. The song of course, is much older. Two versions of It’s Been a Long Long Time topped the charts in late 1945, and as US servicemen returned from Europe and the Pacific, it perfectly caught the mood of the times. One version was by Bing Crosby, and the other by the Harry James Orchestra featuring Kitty Kallen on vocals. It is the latter version that is heard in Endgame and the one that forms the basis of this arrangement.Musicians at an intermediate standard will find It’s Been a Long Long Time ideal for formal and informal concert performances. with both solo instrument and piano enjoying plenty of melodic interest. The separate solo part is included with the piano score in the same pdf file. The overall performance time is just over two and a half minutes.
