Anyone who had a heart was originally written for Dionne Warwick by Hal David (lyrics) and Burt Bacharach (music) in 1963, this song reached the US Top Ten in early 1964, and, sung by Cilla Black, the UK Top Ten. The rather striking character of the song, with its many repeated notes and complex pulse, and its heartfelt viewpoint, by turns pleading and angry, made it a memorable success.Â
