Originally from Glasgow, Timothy studied at the Royal College of Music, London and the Banff Centre, Canada. He was the Pianist for the Isis Piano Trio and Ballet Creations and is now in demand as an accompanist and chamber musician having performed with artists such as Dame Sarah Connolly and Tasmin Little. He has toured widely internationally and has recorded for BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM as well as TV appearances in Russia and Egypt. Murray’s compositions have been recorded by The Fibbonnaci Sequence and Piers Lane among others with reviews such as ‘Corruscating’ (Independent) and ‘Highly imaginative’ (The Sunday Times).

Folksong can be said to be music that contains the life and soul of the country and ancestors, and “Arirang� has a very important meaning in that it is a folk song representing Korea.

Following the fast introduction of 4 bars in 3/4 time, it is connected in the form of 5 variations in 6/8 time. The main melody of “Arirang� is exchanged with each other as if having a conversation with violin and Piano, And followed by a cadenza that boasts the splendid skills of the solo Violin, and after the wide and solemn finale, the same 3/4 time as the beginning. It ends with a short four-bar coda. Han-Ki Kim’s works give the value of artistic literature to children's songs and folk songs, which are familiar to everyone, so that the audience feels Musical sympathy, and because he is a performer, his works are characterized by a good harmony between theory and practice. This Music is dedicated to Professor Kim Nam-yoon, who left great achievements in the field of violin education in Korea.

Folk songs are traditional songs that are passed down among the general public. It reflects the culture, customs, and emotions of each region and has diverse content and rhythm. “Monggeumpo Taryeong(It is also called “Jangsangot Taryeong)� is a traditional Korean folk song handed down from the Hwanghae region. “Monggeumpo� is a port, and the beach here is famous for its white sandy beaches, lush forests, and Rosa rugosa flowers. The content of this folk song consists of a sad melody and lyrics, and it contains the joys and sorrows of the fishermen's lives and the sorrowful feelings waiting for the safe return of a loved one who went out to catch fish. This music is composed in the A-B-A format. The sad part is located in the middle of the music, and the beginning and end parts were composed in an exciting atmosphere. It is usually played to the traditional Korean “jungmori� rhythm, which is also quoted throughout the piece. The attached music file was played on the violin and only the first part was played. This is just for reference.

Carl Bohm

Carl Bohm, sometimes spelled with a K as in Karl Bohm, was born in 1844 and died in 1920. Bohm was a German composer, pianist, and songwriter. He was famous for writing songs with a light and optimistic atmosphere. Some of his most famous songs are Calm as the Night, Twilight, May Bells, Enfant Cheri, and The Fountain. In addition to his songs, he was a very popular composer of string quartets and string trios. His music was very popular and profitable. His publisher used some of the profits from sales of Bohm’s work to prepare the works of Johannes Brahms for publication.

He certainly was prolific, not only with individual compositions but collections and albums of original music, such as the Bohm Album for the Pianoforte. The quality of his melodies is remarkable. They have a familiar quality similar to folk-songs. It’s no wonder they have become so popular.  

His greatest masterpiece may well be the famous Calm as the Night as it is so well finished and refined. This song comes to us from a collection known simply as Lieder Op. 326. Calm as the Night (Still wie die Nacht) is listed as Number 27 in the collection. The song is scored for vocal duet and piano. The lyrics for Bohm’s Still wie die Nacht are anonymous.

Along with Arirang, the representative folk song of Korea, “Bird, Bird, Blue Bird� is also unique to us, and it is music that contains the life and soul of our ancestors, and it is a precious legacy that should be passed down to future generations.

The vague themes are gradually heightened and repeated. Then, the theme is played alternately with the compositional change of the descending perfect 5th sphere for each part. Then, a short connector appears following the harmonics, which gives off an oriental taste.
