Swiss born German composer Joachim Raff (1822-82) was very prolific, and by the end of his life was one of the best known German composers, though his work is largely forgotten today. Only one piece, a cavatina originally for violin and piano, is performed   regularly today. This transcription for Viola and Piano is a useful addition to that instrument's romantic repertoire and suitable for concerts or recitals.
