Sally Pinkas and I go way back.  She and Evan Hirsch have performed my music on many occasions.   In 2002 they recorded my Visconti Sforza Tarot Cards ... Twenty Two Salon Pieces for Two Pianos on Arsis Audio Records.

A year ago Sally asked me to write a new work for her trio Ensemble Schumann.   For a while I had no idea where to begin.  But then the name of the group inspired the idea of taking Robert Schumann's music as a point of departure for the trio.  In my search for a title, I came upon a cactus called Parodia Schumanniana.  Perfect!  That is what I will call my trio - Parodia S. (2018).

The work is in five movements.

Ricordanze was written in 2014 upon hearing the Hugo Kauder Trio. It was revised and reformatted in 2017 to include an alternate part (clarinet) to the oboe part. The clarinet part takes advantage of its lower range and is not an exact transcription of the original oboe part. The work is in 3 movements, approx. 13 minutes duration. Advanced difficulty. The sample excerpt features a small part of the 3rd movement (oboe version).

This arrangement of Railway Song is one of a series of jolly and descriptive quartets (and a septet) all based on the Swabian folksong Auf de schwäb'sche Eisebahne (= on the Swabian railway) from the Tübinger Kommersbuch 1853 The music in this arrangement also mimics the speeding up and slowing down of the train and its whistles. Give me a boat that can carry two and both shall row - my love and I.  From a rich, vibrant Celtic tradition comes the classic The Water is Wide, lovingly crafted to evoke misty Scottish landscapes with rolling green hills (you can almost smell the heather).  This unabashedly romantic trio for oboe, viola and piano is perfect for weddings and ceilidhs (or any Celtic-themed music event) as well as concerts and recitals.  As wedding music, it's recommended as a prelude, bridal march, bridesmaid processional or unity candle music.  
     This arrangement also is effective as sacred music, including a prelude, postlude, an offertory, interlude, silent prayer accompaniment and special music for church services and other worship events, as this melody has been used in multiple hymn settings, including The Gift of Love, Though I May Speak with Bravest Fire and as an alternate melody for When I Survey the Wondrous Cross. 12 pages of music (that includes separate two-page pullout parts for oboe and viola).  Concert Key: G major.
