Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninoff was a Russian composer, virtuoso pianist, and conductor. Rachmaninoff is widely considered one of the finest pianists of his day and, as a composer, one of the last great representatives of Romanticism in Russian classical music. Early influences of Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, and other Russian composers gave way to a thoroughly personal idiom notable for its song-like melodicism, expressiveness and rich orchestral colours. The Polka Italienne (Italian Polka) is originally a piano work for two pianos. This arrangement for viola with piano accompaniment is suitable for classroom, repertoire, recital and for a funny encore.

The Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18, is a concerto for piano and orchestra composed by Sergei Rachmaninov between June 1900 and April 1901. No other concerto by Rachmaninoff was as popular with audiences and pianists alike as his Second Concerto ant it is one of the most often performed concertos in the repertoire.Â
Numerous films borrow themes from the composition and it has also inspired numerous songs, like two ones recorded by Frank Sinatra and Eric Carmen's 1975 ballad All by Myself (sung also by Celine Dion).

This arrangement for viola with piano of the marvelous and very famous second movement is suitable for classroom, repertoire and recital.

This arrangement of the three-part compilation published in 1905 is based on Fritz Kreisler's original version as well as on later piano transcriptions by Sergei Rachmaninoff, with the harmonies, chromaticism and counterpoint of the piano transcriptions remaining unchanged. Original version and transcription are combined to form a virtuoso and effective solo piece. The three-four time typical of Vienna requires a certain, yet hardly notatable freedom of tempo without metronomic constraints.
