But the theatre in Paris who commissioned the work went bankrupt the following year, so FaurĆ© put the music aside. Five years later he arranged it for cello and piano. The siciliana is an instrumental or vocal work in a slow 6/8 or 12/8 meter in a minor key. It is occasionally sorrowful in feeling and was a common pastorale genre used by composers of the Baroque era. This arrangement for viola and piano is perfect for recitals or any occasion.
