Originally written for clarinet and piano, Suite in Sea is a fun and quirky work composed by Kara Williams (drawing on her own time at sea in the Navy) that has been re-orchestrated for Viola and Piano by the composer.

A suite of four short programmatic movements, we first follow a young sailor as they stagger around the deck on their first voyage - finally succumbing to the corkscrew motion of the ocean in Sea Sick Shanty; then enjoying a moment of peace and beauty as the ship sails through an Archipelago teaming with marine life; in Brew Time March, the young sailor excitedly hears the bugle call to have a break from work (brew time), grab a coffee and sit on the bow to watch the waves and lost in thoughts, they unexpectedly hears the sound of work recommencing, and scurry back, making it just in the nick of time, waiting eagerly for next the next call for Brew Time - and the preparation, spectacle, pride, and excitement of Sailing into Harbour concludes this suite suitable for an intermediate to more advanced player looking for something entertaining and a little bit different.

They are a suite of two piano pieces that contain hints of Debussy's developing musical style. Although they did not receive much attention when they were first published, they are now regarded as early impressionist standards. Debussy seems to wander through modes and keys, achieving evocative scenes throughout both pieces. The Arabesques are important in the history of music as they represent a significant development in the impressionist movement.

Claude Debussy was a French composer born in 1862 who developed a highly original system of harmony and musical structure that expressed the ideals of the Impressionist and Symbolist painters and writers of his time. He is considered one of the most important and influential composers of the 20th century. Debussy's compositions, including his orchestral poems and piano music, helped establish the musical language for much of the twentieth century. Critics often credited Debussy with pioneering a genre called impressionism, although Debussy consistently rejected the term. This is the Early American melody Beach Spring arranged for solo viola with piano. The setting was originally an anthem with instrumental obbligato which I rearranged for solo instrument.
