Lemmel was a late 19th/early 20th century singer, teacher, and hymnist from England. She came to the U.S. as an adolescent. Sections A and C are the verse. Sections B and D are the chorus. A moduation to a new key occurs at the end of section B with the help of an Italian augmented sixth chord. A descant by yours truly is then added. Towards the end, the work lands on a decptive cadence, followed by a final bold resolution to the tonic.
