I chose this accompaniment style while picturing a full wind band led by a trumpet choir. My goal was a full sound, without being too difficult for the pianist. The second verse begins more muted, and ends in triumph, celebrating the resurrection of Christ. Separate parts for both C and B flat trumpet included.

It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop.  Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard. This full version is arranged as a Solo for Trumpet and Piano; the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The single pdf file contains both the score and the solo instrumental part. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both the solo and accompaniment enjoying melodic interest. Here, the famous main theme is arranged for Solo Trumpet and Piano, directly from the orchestral score. The first performance of the ballet in Moscow in 1877 was not well received. The production was fraught with disagreements between choreographer and composer; the Russian audience were suspicious of the story’s Germanic origins and the music was regarded as too complex for ballet. Tchaikovsky did not live to see a triumphant revival production in 1895 that confirmed Swan Lake as one of the greatest ballet scores of all. Included in the single download are six pages of piano score and a separate two-page part for the solo instrument. The melody is expressive and legato; the accompaniment is challenging in parts, with tremolos and rich chords. The piece was premiered in Paris in 1888, and underwent several revisions in subsequent years. The Requiem was performed at Fauré’s own funeral in 1924, but it’s only in recent years that this gentle version of the Mass for the Dead has received the international recognition it deserves. Contemporary performances in Parisian churches required the Pie Jesus to be sung by a boy treble, but in the concert hall, Fauré always preferred a soprano voice for the part.This arrangement transcribes the orchestral score as a Solo for Trumpet with Piano accompaniment. Both the piano score and the solo part are included in the pdf file. The linked youtube performance is the clarinet version of this arrangement.Soloists at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The rhythms are straightforward, and there is plenty of scope for expressive, lyrical playing. The slow tempo though will require good breath and tone control. Several versions were recorded by gospel choirs in the ‘20s and ‘30s, and Down by the Riverside, with its lyric, I ain’t goin’ to study war no more, was adopted as an anti-war song by the ‘60s counterculture.
