He began composing it around 1890, at the age of 28, but significantly revised it just before its 1905 publication. The popularity of the 3rd movement, Clair de lune, has made it one of the composer's most famous works for piano, as well as one of the most famous piano compositions of all-time. This arrangement for trumpet with piano of the 1st movement, Prelude, is marked moderato tempo rubato. Its legato phrases give it a smooth, flowing feel. It is suitable for classroom, repertoire, recital and also wedding.

Here, the famous main theme is arranged for Solo Trumpet and Piano, directly from the orchestral score. The first performance of the ballet in Moscow in 1877 was not well received. The production was fraught with disagreements between choreographer and composer; the Russian audience were suspicious of the story’s Germanic origins and the music was regarded as too complex for ballet. Tchaikovsky did not live to see a triumphant revival production in 1895 that confirmed Swan Lake as one of the greatest ballet scores of all. Included in the single download are six pages of piano score and a separate two-page part for the solo instrument. The melody is expressive and legato; the accompaniment is challenging in parts, with tremolos and rich chords. It features a triplet motif which is developed and ornamented and is set in a moody minor key with some unexpected shifts and dissonances. the long phrases will require excellent breath control to keep them legato. The shift to the upper register climaxing with the Bb in bar 13 is very challenging.  This piece needs to be played with a very bright, clear, focused sound to create the atmosphere of the lonely, icy night on the ocean.
