Gioachino Antonio Rossini (1792 – 1868) was an Italian composer who gained fame for his 39 operas, although he also wrote many songs, some chamber music and piano pieces, and some sacred music. Handel wrote this aria as the opening to the 1738 opera 'Serse'. Initially, the opera was a commercial failure, before it was later rediscovered and going on to become one of Handel's best-loved works. It is presented here as an intermediate-level solo with piano.
