Silent Night is one of the most cherished and widely performed Christmas carols across the globe. Composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber with lyrics by Father Joseph Mohr, the carol was first performed on Christmas Eve in the small Austrian village of Oberndorf. Since then, it has become a universal symbol of peace, hope, and unity, translated into over 300 languages and dialects. In this version, the composition was arranged for Tuba and Piano by Harry Walker.

Not much is known about the origins of the Concertino, except that the three-movement work was most likely first written and performed by E-flat Cornet in the mid-19th Century by Sachse himself. Since that time, the work has been edited for Trombone and Bass Trombone. 

Along with the David Concertino, the two works are great examples of German Romantic solo writing for the brass family.

Charles Vernon has arranged an excellent sounding edition for Tuba and Piano of about 12 minutes in length for advanced performers.
