Debussy was inspired to write this  movement from the poem Fêtes galantes by Paul Verlaine. The Suite has been transcribed for every imaginable instrumentation and is one of the composer's most playable works from a technical standpoint. This lovely 3-minute arrangement for Tuba or Bass Trombone by Ralph Sauer is appropriate for moderately advanced performers.

The Petite Suite, published in 1885, is Borodin's major work for the Piano and originally comprised of seven movements.  Mr. Sauer's arrangement incorporates three of them: Intermezzo, Rêverie and Sérénade.  The Petite Suite was dedicated to the Belgian Countess Louise de Mercy-Argenteau, who was a supporter of Borodin and his music.  After Borodin's death in 1887, Glazunov orchestrated the Suite. The music has that Eastern flavor so indicative of Borodin's melodies, mysterious, lyrical and subtle.  Advanced performers will enjoy this work which has been so beautifully arranged by Mr. Sauer.

Written at the very end of the Romantic era in the early 20th century, the melodies are beautiful, the harmonies lush and the rhythms intoxicating. For advanced performers this 12 minute work will be a great addition to any recital.

It is one of the very early impressionist pieces of music. Debussy seems to wander through modes and keys and achieves evocative scenes throughout. It is a rhythmic and energetic work that was not published until after Debussy's death.

Tubists will enjoy working on this style of Spanish Nationalist music of which there is none in the solo repertoire. The Two Dances are about 6 1/2 minutes in length and can be performed by advanced musicians.
