La Pavane pour une infante défunte est à l'origine une pièce pour piano de Maurice Ravel composée en 1899 et dédiée à la princesse de Polignac. La création de la version pianistique eut lieu à Paris le 5 avril 1902 par le pianiste Ricardo Viñes. Son exécution dure environ six minutes. La Pavane a été orchestrée par Ravel en 1910. L'œuvre porte la référence M.19 dans le catalogue des œuvres du compositeur établi par le musicologue Marcel Marnat. In this version, the composition was arranged for Trombone and Piano by Harry Walker.

L'enfant et les Sortilèges by Maurice Ravel is a one act opera first performed in 1925. Ravel's Mother Goose was composed in 1908 as a suite of five piano duets for the children of his friends, the Godebski's. They are based on the well-known story first published in 1697. In 1911 Ravel arranged them in a longer format for a ballet orchestra. The music has a magical childlike quality to it of innocence and simplicity.
