Kyrie Eleison from Bach's B minor mass arranged for recorder orchestra (9 recorders - AATTTBBBCb). The contrabass recorder part is optional since it mostly doubles the bass 3 part.

Kyrie Eleison is the opening of Bach's glorious B minor mass, and is about 10 minutes worth of rich and chromatic harmony. The use of counterpoint in this movement is stunning, and Bach cleverly repeats the theme over and over in different voices and in different contexts. This is a beautiful baroque piece suitable for any early intermediate recorder ensemble. It was written originally for a choir and a small orchestra, but it works beautifully for the recorder - have a listen!

Programme note:

The waltz song Je te veux ('I want you') was composed by Erik Satie to a text by Henry Pacory. It was written for the burlesque singer Paulette Darty (the Queen of the Slow Waltz) whose accompanist Satie had been for a period of time. The song was composed around 1897 - 1902, and Satie made various arrangements of it, inluding brass ensemble, orchestra, solo piano, and adding a Trio section.

Francesco Geminiani (1687-1762), one of the great violin virtuosos of his day, was also an exquisite composer. Following the example of Corelli, Geminiani composed several sets of concerti grossi, but writing original music was not his first step into the genre. In 1726 he published his first work, 12 Concerti grossi, which were arranged according to the violin sonatas of Corelli.

Here is the Concerto No. 12 'La Folia' in an arrangement for recorder orchestra.

The death of AÌ?se is from Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46, which was extracted from the incidental music to 
Henrik Ibsen's play, Peer Gynt. The five-act drama concerns a young Norwegian lad named Peer Gynt, who dreams of becoming emperor of the world. His sundry adventures are the stuff of high drama and adventure, and are rough and isolated in a way that is peculiarly Nordic. Grieg captures this tone perfectly with his music.

The death of AÌ?se  was intended to be played as a prelude to the third act. Peer Gynt has returned home to his mother Ase, only to find that her days on earth have come to an end. A slow and sad piece.
