Published by Spencer Bundy (A0.837691). These three Trio Sonatas by Boyce are from a set of twelve he wrote in the Italian style. They were incredibly successful on first publication in 1747. They are still enjoyable today by both the performers and audiences. The Slow March from Sonata No.4 was performed at Boyce's funeral in 1779.

Published by Keith Moss (A0.977003). The trio was written in 2012 for the first Stefans Grové Composition Competition.  The brief was to write for any trio combination. Based on the poem by Gerard Manley Hopkings, As Kingfishers catch fire, Dragonflies draw flame, the imagery derived from the poem was the driving force behind the piece. Set in three movements I shifted the slow movement to the end. This was the first piece that explored the possibilities I set out to find regarding augmented triads and their resolutions.The first movement explores these possibilities but the difficulty lay in producing all three triadic resolutions with only three instruments simultaneously.  The piece became an exercise in restraint.  The second movement followed as a scherzo where arpegiated figures helped to flesh out the harmonic structures I was seeking.  The final movement is a free-form canon of sorts putting the active preceding movements to rest. The piece subsequently won the First Prize in the competition and was awarded in early 2013.

This is the first of a set of four Divertimenti which Haydn composed for his first visit to London in 1794. They were originally written for two flutes and cello and here the arrangement is for flute, oboe and clarinet. There are three movements, Allegro moderato, Andante and Vivace. They are suitable for an ensemble of players of intermediate standard.

This Trio Sonata is the first of a set of six published in Paris in 1712 for pairs of ‘fluÌ‚tes traversieres, fluÌ‚tes a bec, violons, hautbois, &c.’ with continuo by Mr. Hotteterre, FluÌ‚te de la Chambre du Roy. They were dedicated to the Duke of Orleans and published ‘avec privilege du Roy.’ The first Sonata has been edited and arranged for flute, oboe & clarinet in Bb. The four movements, Prelude, Fugue, Grave and Gigue, are in the Baroque style with the interest equally shared between the three parts. Dynamics in the 1712 edition are French - doux and fort. These have been standardised as p & f. The top parts were printed in the soprano clef - with g on the bottom line as was common in France at the time. Amusingly this led to some modern ill informed speculation about flutes of the period being expected to play low bs! In this edition all edits are shown using parentheses ( ) or dashed lines. The Trio is suitable for players of intermediate standard and above and provides repertoire in the French Baroque style for  an ensemble of players just a few years beyond the reach of Hotteterre.

This arrangement of Pachelbel's famous Canon in D is best suited for advanced players seeking a trio that incorporates some of the bass line and affords each instrument a portion of the melody. In general, the flute and oboe share the first two voices of the canon, followed by an echo on the clarinet. No dynamic markings are given in the first edition published in Paris 'Pour les flutes Traversieres, violons, ou hautbois' by Boivin in 1728. Dynanics have been left for performers to decide.

The second bassoon/cello part was optional and was figured so that a keyboard part could be added - making a total of five players. The Trio sonata alternative is here arranged for flute, oboe & clarinet in A. Players of intermediate standard and above will enjoy the interplay between the equal parts in the Trio's three movements, Vivace, largo & Allegro.

This is the fifth of six trio sonatas opus 5 first published in 1736. Although a clarinet would not have been available at the time of composition, the piece has been edited to preserve the Baroque style. Locatelli wrote the sonatas for violins or flutes with continuo and would have expected them to be played by what instruments were available. All edits are shown in parentheses ( ) or dashed lines. The clarinet part is in A. The three movements, Largo - Andante and Allegros in, respectively common and triple time provide equal independent parts for players of intermediate standard and above. The balance of the ensemble requires careful attention and players may wish to take turns to improvise short cadenzas at the pauses (fermatas).
