Felix Mendelssohn’s Wedding March was originally written in 1842 as incidental music to Shakespeare’s famousplay, Midsummer Night’s Dream. When Queen Victoria’s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, it became instantly popular and has remained a wedding favourite ever since.

This version is arranged for Solo Clarinet and Piano and the performance time is around three and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and interchangeable. Repeats may also be ignored. Both the full length youtube performance and the short audio sample are from the Clarinet version off this arrangement.

The solo part is intermediate level, while the piano accompaniment suits an advanced intermediate player.Both will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with building dynamic range and stamina.

The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop.  Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard. 

This full version is arranged as a Solo for Clarinet and Piano; the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored.

Fur Elise is the popular name given to Bagatelle no.25 written by  Ludwig van Beethoven. The piece was never published in Beethoven's lifetime and only came to light forty years after his death. Despite much debate, no-one has been able to establish who the Elise of the dedication actually was. 

This arrangement transcribes the piano score as a Solo for Clarinet with Piano accompaniment. There are five pages of piano accompaniment and a separate two page solo part included.

Soloists at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The rhythms are straightforward, and there is plenty of scope for expressive, lyrical playing with subtle tempo changes. The piano part is suitable for an intermediate player, easy for the most part, but with two short faster passages. The overall performance time is around three minutes.

The Trumpet Tune and Air was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on the trumpet stop.  Written around 1700, for many years this piece was attributed to Henry Purcell. But more recently many have questioned whether the composer was in fact Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. What is known is that the piece was written for a semi-opera called The Island Princess, and that both men contributed music to the production. In recent years this piece has become a popular wedding favourite.

“Korean Simple Suite� No.3  <Happy Wedding>  For Clarinet and Piano Op.273

It consists of 5 movements in total, and all of them mainly used the traditional 5 notes of “Do,Re,Mi,Sol,Ra� in Korea as far as the melody is concerned. It shows the wedding ceremony of the bride and groom held in the traditional Korean front yard and the surrounding scenery. The original Music was composed for violin and was composed by the composer's own teacher, violinist  Dr. Walter Verdehr.
1st mov. : The Front Yard: In F minor in 8/12 time, it is a short movement with a bright atmosphere. The Korean’s front yard is a friendly place for villagers' gatherings and events.
2nd mov. : Yeonzi – Gonzi: In F major in 4/4 time. The meaning of “Yeonji Gonji� is the red dot on the cheeks and forehead of the bride in a Korean traditional wedding ceremony.
3rd mov. : Joyful Dance: 3/4 time F minor, composed in ABA form, expressed the joy of dancing in Korea.
4th mov. : Longing: In D minor in 6/4 time, tried to express the feeling of oriental waiting.
5th mov. : The Bride and Groom: B minor, composed of 4/4 and 6/4 time signatures. Like the title The Groom and the Bride, it is composed in a rondo format that intersects the theme of liveliness and the theme of calm.

Suite in Sea is a fun and quirky work for solo clarinet and piano composed by Kara Williams. Each movement draws on inspiration from Kara’s own time at sea serving in the military imagined as a suite of four short programmatic movements.
 
We follow a young sailor as they stagger around the deck in the rough weather, finally succumbing to the corkscrew motion of the ocean in ‘Sea Sick Shanty’; a moment of peace and beauty for the young sailor as the ship sails through an ‘Archipelago’ teaming with marine life; In ‘Brew Time March, the young sailor excitedly hears the bugle call to have a break from work (brew time), grab a coffee and sit on the bow to watch the waves… lost in thoughts, they unexpectedly hear the sound of work recommencing, and scurry back, making it just in the nick of time… waiting eagerly for next the next call for Brew Time! The preparation, spectacle, pride, and excitement of ‘Sailing into Harbour’ completes this suite, suitable for an intermediate to more advanced player looking for something entertaining and a little bit different!
