According to legend, Cormac Laidir MacCarthy (the builder of Blarney Castle), appealed to the Irish goddess Clíodhna for assistance with a lawsuit. She told MacCarthy to kiss the first stone he saw on his way to the courthouse, which he did. MacCarthy then plead his case with great eloquence and won.
