Named for flautist and Prussian king Frederick the Great, Frederick II is a two minute flute duet in B-Flat Major with a melody that flows across the parts. It serves well as non-vocal holiday music or simply a chamber duet, and may be a useful school piece due to its prominent use of scales and common intervals as well as its relative ease of performance.

Jingle Bells, known as One Horse Open Sleigh, is one of the most common and well-known Christmases in the world. It was written and composed by James Lord Pierpont (1822–1893) and published as One Horse Open Sleigh on September 16, 1857, a song for Thanksgiving and not Christmas. The song portrays how to play me lyrical while walking through the snow in a horse-drawn sleigh. Jingle Bells was the first song played in Space. On December 16, 1965, the crew of the Gemini 6A decided to get into the Christmas spirit and play this classic Christmas music during their trip to Space.

Pachelbel's Canon (also known as the Canon in D, P 37) is an accompanied canon by the German Baroque composer Johann Pachelbel. The canon was originally scored for three violins and basso continuo and paired with a gigue, known as Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo. Both movements are in the key of D major. Although a true canon at the unison in three parts, it also has elements of a chaconne. Neither the date nor the circumstances of its composition are known (suggested dates range from 1680 to 1706), and the oldest surviving manuscript copy of the piece dates from 1838 to 1842.[1]

Like his other works, Pachelbel's Canon went out of style, and remained in obscurity for centuries. A 1968 arrangement and recording of it by the Jean-François Paillard chamber orchestra gained popularity over the next decade, and in the 1970s the piece began to be recorded by many ensembles; by the early 1980s its presence as background music was deemed inescapable.[2] From the 1970s onward, elements of the piece, especially its chord progression, were used in a variety of pop songs. Since the 1980s, it has also found increasingly common use in weddings and funeral ceremonies in the Western world.

Amore, (Italian for Love), is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Alto Flute and is one of series of pieces celebrating Love in different languages around the world.

This duet is inspired by late nineteenth century Italian Opera, written by such composers as Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini. Love themes were the common currency of their arias, and few genres of music can match their emotional depth and intensity.

If you play to an advanced intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The Waltz rhythm should carry the melody forward with momentum and following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Amore has a performance time of around three minutes. The Court Jester is intended as a descriptive piece. The Jester was a member of the household of a nobleman or a monarch employed to entertain guests during royal court. Jesters were also traveling performers who entertained common folk at fairs and town markets, and the discipline continues into the modern day, where jesters perform at historical-themed events.

This piece is in ternary form. The outer sections are to represent the general clowning around and playing pranks as a mischievous Jester does. The middle section by contrast is more lyrical to demonstrate a softer side to the personality, however this quickly transcends back to the final section where jokes, pranks and laughs have their way! 

It should be performed very briskly and lightly to capture the overall feel of the piece. The range in total is two and a half octaves and it is 4.00 minutes in length- Set at Intermediate level. The whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability.
