It came to Palestine in the same year, as an advertisement for Turkish cigarettes; the tune was printed on the package. ·        Hayu Leilot (There were nights) was written by Mordecai Zeira in 1938 to a poem by Yaakov Orland. They are in the Baroque style written for two equal players of intermediate ability.The dynamic markings are few as the custom of contrasting dynamics on repeated sections was well known. The dynamics in parentheses ( ) are suggestions only as are the dashed phrasings. The original publication was of separate part books. The repeated sections were only indicated in part two which probably caused some initial confusion! The current edition is in playing score format. The sonatas are also suitable for pairs of oboes or violins.
