Flute Duet Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.587319 By Steve Tyrell. By John Frederick Coots. Arranged by David McKeown. Christmas,Holiday,Jazz,Pop,Rock. Score. 3 pages. David McKeown #3132731. Published by David McKeown (A0.587319). Santa Claus is Coming to Town was written in 1934 by Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie. Although it was a big sheet music seller at the time, it was Perry Como’s 1951 recording that turned it into a major hit. The simple harmony and melody have made this a perennial favourite with everyone from Sinatra to the Jacksons, Maria Carey and Bruce Springsteen. This version borrows from the swinging jazz style of various Sinatra recordings and is arranged as a duet for two Flutes. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal Christmas performances. There are syncopated swing rhythms and some less familiar accidentals. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes. The short audio sample is from the Clarinet and Alto Saxophone version while the full length performance on the youtube link is the Clarinet duet. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with jazz rhythms and articulation. A local minister transcribed the song and within a few years it became a firm gospel favourite. The words have a meaning beyond the spiritual, with hidden references to the Underground Railway of the time that helped escaped slaves cross to Canada. In more recent times Steal Away to Jesus was arranged by Michael Tippett in 1944 and recorded famously by Mahalia Jackson and Nat King Cole. Steal Away to Jesus is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The song is played several times as a ballad, with ever changing accompaniment. Instrumental Duet Alto Flute,Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.589790 By John Denver. By David Leslie Froggatt, Jane Barnes, and Johnny Marks. Arranged by David McKeown. Children,Christmas,Country,Holiday,Rock. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #6096133. Published by David McKeown (A0.589790). This version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is arranged by David McKeown as a duet for one Flute and one Alto Flute. The song, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, was written in 1949 by Johhny Marks. The Rudolph story was written by Marks’ brother-in-law, Robert L May, a decade earlier. The success of the song was guaranteed when it was recorded by Gene Autry, a huge star at the time. Initially Gene Autry didn’t like the song and was only persuaded to record it by his wife. She obviously knew best as Rudolph went on to become the second best-selling Christmas record of all time after White Christmas, with versions by everyone from the Jackson Five to Alvin and the Chipmunks. This duet version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is based on the Gene Autry version, with a short introduction, and three choruses of the melody, with a key change and varied accompaniment throughout. Rhythms are simple in a swing style and the range is conservative, so this arrangement is ideal for players at an intermediate level.
