SKU: A0.588867

Composed by Traditional Irish. Arranged by David McKeown. Celtic,Folk,Holiday,Wedding,World. Score. 4 pages. David McKeown #6013309. Published by David McKeown (A0.588867).

The Londonderry Air is among the best loved melodies of Ireland. This beautiful version is arranged as a duet for two Flutes.

The Londonderry Air was first collected and notated in the mid-nineteenth century in County Londonderry in the North of Ireland, however, the origins of the melody remain unknown. In 1913 the English writer Frederic Weatherley set his poem Danny Boy to the melody. There are many other settings of the Londonderry Air, with various lyrics and in musical styles from orchestral to brass band to jazz, but Danny Boy remains the best known.

Londonderry Air is simply arranged in accessible keys and over a range best suited to the instruments. The melody is played twice with a key change and different accompaniment on the second verse and is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of Londonderry Air is perfect for recitals and concert performance. Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Ray Kamada. Holiday,Instructional,World. Individual part. 6 pages. The Lone Arranger #4320743. Published by The Lone Arranger (A0.757346).

The familiar Danny Boy theme is woven through a set of variations rendered as a study in breath control and counting, employing harmonies consisting of quarter notes, eighths, sixteenths, and eighth note triplets, along with some 2 on 3 and 3 on 4 accompaniment. The flutes also switch lines in mid-stream and back again. The etude can be played either from the score or from separate parts. It can also be played for sheer enjoyment, gigs, or as a sight-reading exercise for teachers with more advanced students.
