Composed by Giuseppe Sammartini (1695-1750). Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Classical,Contest,Festival,Standards,Wedding. Score. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #686468. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1082316).

Sammartini Op. 1 No. 2 Sonata. Score: 6 pages. Duration: 8:13 I. Andante II. Allegro III. Minuet/Grazioso

Giuseppe Sammartini was an Italian composer, oboist, and organist who lived during the Baroque era. He is credited with helping to establish the form of the modern concerto grosso, which would become an important part of the development of classical chamber music. Sammartini wrote many solo and chamber pieces, including sonatas, trios, and concertos. His style is considered to be very graceful and expressive, and his works often contain virtuosic passages.

Sammartini's influence on the history of classical chamber music is significant. His compositions demonstrate the shift from the Baroque to the Classical style, and his works served as a bridge between the two periods. His chamber music was often praised by his contemporaries, and he was one of the first composers to use a modern concerto grosso form. Sammartini's influence is also evident in the works of later composers such as Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. His legacy can be seen in the music of many contemporary classical chamber music ensembles.

Score: 9 pages. Duration: ca. 7:25

Giuseppe Sammartini was an Italian Baroque composer, oboist, and conductor. He was born in 1695 in Milan and was the son of a famous oboist and composer, Giovanni Battista Sammartini. He was a prodigy who began composing at an early age, and he went on to become one of the most important composers of the Baroque era.

During his career, Sammartini composed several operas, symphonies, cantatas, and other sacred works. He was particularly noted for his oboe concertos and sonatas, which are highly acclaimed and remain popular to this day. He also wrote several treatises on music theory, which were widely studied and used by many musicians of the time. Sammartini was one of the first Italian composers to use the galant style, which featured light and graceful melodies. He was also an accomplished conductor and a prolific teacher, who taught several of the most important composers of the 18th century, including Johann Christian Bach and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach.

Sammartini died in 1750, but his legacy lives on in his music, which is still widely performed and admired today. He is remembered as one of the most important and influential composers of the Baroque era, and his works continue to be an inspiration to modern composers.

SKU: A0.811712

Composed by GIUSEPPE SAMMARTINI (1695 - 1750). Arranged by Edited by Pat Spence. Baroque,Concert. Score and parts. 24 pages. Piper Publications #4983087. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811712).

This is the first of ‘VI SONATE A TRE Due Flauti col Basso’  by ‘Giuseppe San Martini  Milanese’ published in Paris as his ‘Opera Prima’ (opus 1)* by Le Clerc and Boivin ‘avec privilege du Roi’ in 1736. Giuseppe’s surname varied progressively during his life from St. Martini via San Martini to Giuseppe Sammartini. The basso part would have been played on a cello or bassoon probably with the addition of a harpsichord filling out the harmony according to the figured bass. The trio works well with three players of intermediate ability or above. One or both flute parts can be played on oboe(s) or violin(s) and this would certainly have happened in the households of the wealthy amateurs who purchased the first edition.

These are the first three of Sammartini’s SIX SONATAS OR DUETS for two German flutes Compos’d for the Temple of Apollo published by James Oswald and sold at his music shop in St. Martin’s Church Yard in the Strand London shortly after October 1747. The title page is followed by a copy of the permission of George the Second King of Great Britain, France and Ireland to print and publish two operas of Vocal and Instrumental Music intitled (sic), The Temple of Apollo which he has composed and employed others to compose, for a period of fourteen years.

Sonatas 1 & 2 have three movements, No. 3 has four: No. 1 in D major - Andante, Allegro & Allegro

No. 2 in E minor - Andante, Allegro & Minuet & Trio

No. 3 in A major - Spiritoso, Allegro, Andantino & Minuet

The parts are of equal difficulty and move independently. Players of intermediate ability and above will enjoy these. The format is a playing score with no page turns during the movements.

N.B. These Sonatas are completely different sonatas from the

VI SONATE A TRE for 2 flutes & basso published by Boivin in Paris in 1740 which, confusingly were also described as 'opera 1'.

Composed by David McKeown. Jazz,Latin,World. Score. 8 pages. David McKeown #5801093. Published by David McKeown (A0.588863).

Samba de Simão is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Flutes.

This duet is based on the style of Samba. With roots in West African music, modern Samba emerged in Rio de Janiero, Brazil at the beginning of the twentieth century. There are many forms, both sung and instrumental, and the Samba rhythm has found its way around the world into jazz and modern electronic pop and dance music. Samba has become a cultural symbol of Brazil, with Rio’s famous Samba schools producing theatrical and ultra-professional showpieces for the annual carnival.

If you play to an advanced intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. Rhythms should be lightly articulated, the melody should always flow, the two underlying strong beats in each bar should always be felt, and following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Samba de Simão has a performance time of two and a half minutes. Follow the link above to listen to a complete YouTube performance of the Clarinet version of Samba de Simão.
