SKU: A0.588845

Composed by Traditional Irish. Arranged by David McKeown. Celtic,Folk,Holiday,Irish,Multicultural,Wedding,World. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #6013297. Published by David McKeown (A0.588845).

The Londonderry Air is among the best loved melodies of Ireland. This beautiful version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Alto Flute.

The Londonderry Air was first collected and notated in the mid-nineteenth century in County Londonderry in the North of Ireland, however, the origins of the melody remain unknown. In 1913 the English writer Frederic Weatherley set his poem Danny Boy to the melody. There are many other settings of the Londonderry Air, with various lyrics and in musical styles from orchestral to brass band to jazz, but Danny Boy remains the best known.

Londonderry Air is simply arranged in accessible keys and over a range best suited to the instruments. The melody is played twice with a key change and different accompaniment on the second verse and is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of Londonderry Air is perfect for recitals and concert performance. Composed by Jules Massenet. Arranged by Glenn Martin. 19th Century,Classical,Contest,Festival,Opera,Romantic Period. Score. 5 pages. Cornelius edition #768779. Published by Cornelius edition (A0.1168448).

Jules Massenet was inspired by a popular play by Corneille, as were both Bizet and Debussy, but Massenet was the only one of the three composers to complete his opera, Le Cid (The Lord) which remained very popular throughout Europe for its first thirty-five years.
The opening movement of the ballet suite, Castillane from Castile, Rodrigue’s home province, is a mixture of elegance and heroic Spanish dance.
This arrangement is for two advanced intermediate flute players and suitable for encores, competitions and any occasion.

SKU: A0.1398817

By Cascia Talbert. By Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by Cascia Talbert. Classical. Score. 7 pages. Cascia Talbert #982092. Published by Cascia Talbert (A0.1398817).

Pachelbel's Canon (also known as the Canon in D, P 37) is an accompanied canon by the German Baroque composer Johann Pachelbel. The canon was originally scored for three violins and basso continuo and paired with a gigue, known as Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo. Both movements are in the key of D major. Although a true canon at the unison in three parts, it also has elements of a chaconne. Neither the date nor the circumstances of its composition are known (suggested dates range from 1680 to 1706), and the oldest surviving manuscript copy of the piece dates from 1838 to 1842.[1]

Like his other works, Pachelbel's Canon went out of style, and remained in obscurity for centuries. A 1968 arrangement and recording of it by the Jean-François Paillard chamber orchestra gained popularity over the next decade, and in the 1970s the piece began to be recorded by many ensembles; by the early 1980s its presence as background music was deemed inescapable.[2] From the 1970s onward, elements of the piece, especially its chord progression, were used in a variety of pop songs. Since the 1980s, it has also found increasingly common use in weddings and funeral ceremonies in the Western world.

This arrangement is for two flutes (duet).

SKU: A0.587512

Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by David McKeown. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score. 7 pages. David McKeown #4354137. Published by David McKeown (A0.587512).

Felix Mendelssohn’s Wedding March was originally written in 1842 as incidental music to Shakespeare’s famousplay, Midsummer Night’s Dream. When Queen Victoria’s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, it became instantly popular and has remained a wedding favourite ever since.

This full version is arranged as a duet for Two Flutes and the performance time is around 6 minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and interchangeable. Repeats may also be ignored. Follow the links above to hear a short sample or watch a complete performance on youtube. The samples are from the clarinet version of this arrangement.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with detailed articulation and dynamics.

Composed by Franz Xaver Gruber. Arranged by David McKeown. Blues,Christmas,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score and parts. 3 pages. David McKeown #6549685. Published by David McKeown (A0.594102).

Silent Night is a much-loved Christmas carol. This version is arranged as a duet in a Gospel style for one Flute and one Alto Flute.  Click on the YouTube link above to listen to a full length performance of this arrangement played on Clarinet.

The melody of Silent Night was composed by Franz Xaver Gruber in 1918, a setting for the lyrics of a young priest, Joseph Mohr. After flooding had damaged the church organ in Oberdorf, Austria, Mohr asked local schoolmaster, Gruber, to write a Christmas melody to be accompanied by guitar. Silent Night was the result. The carol remained unpublished until 1833, but has since gained huge international popularity. Bing Crosby’s version sold more than 10 million copies and UNESCO has declared the carol an intangible cultural heritage

With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Silent Night is perfect for seasonal celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. The gospel style is a fun, fresh and soulful take on this familiar tune.

Silent Night is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The 9/8 meter may be feel unusual to some, and there is plenty of articulation detail to help deliver an authentic style. The melody is played twice, with a short intro and a bluesy outdo. This arrangement is suitable for players at an intermediate level.
