Modern Rock music has its origins in Rock’n’Roll, with the first use of the word in 1951 by an Ohio DJ.  The first big hit was Bill Haley’s Rock Around the Clockin 1955, but other artists such as Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Gene Vincent and Little Richard all have strong claims to being the first Rock’n’Roll artist.

The Easter Egg Rock is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by the fast tempo and syncopated rhythms and accidentals. This version is faithful to the swinging rock’n’roll style of the original and includes a simple transcription of Boots Randolph’s famous sax solo. It is arranged as a duet for two Flutes. 

Musicians at an early intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal Christmas performances. There are some simple syncopated swing rhythms and a few accidentals accidentals. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes. She’s Leaving Home first appeared on the Beatles’ 1967 album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The song was jointly written and performed by Paul McCartney and John Lennon. George Harrison and Ringo Starr took no part in the recording and there were no instrumental contributions by any of the Beatles. The song was inspired by a newspaper story about a missing teenage girl. The girl in question turned up safe and sound eventually, and had, by complete coincidence, met the Beatles at a TV recording a few year’s earlier.

This version of She’s Leaving Home is arranged as a duet for two Flutes. The full YouTube performance above is the Clarinet version of this arrangement.

Queen's 'We Will Rock You.' Simplified version for beginning players. This duet uses only six notes (Bb – G), and the rhythm has been simplified from the original so that it is easy to play. The body percussion stamp stamp clap rhythm can continue throughout the piece by another player or an audience if desired. Part A and Part B take turns at playing the melody and accompaniment, giving both players an interesting part.

This duet is also available for other instruments all playing in Concert B-flat so that parts can be mixed with other instruments and in mixed instrumental group lessons. Other versions of this arrangement by Sarah Johnson are available on SMP for the following instruments: Trumpet/Clarinet, Trombone/Euphonium, Flute, Horn in F, Alto Saxophone/E-flat Tenor Horn.
